Middleweight Titleholder & Corner Analyst Daniel Jacobs Makes Primetime PBC on NBC Debut

Adrien “The Problem” Broner vs. “Showtime” Shawn Porter Headlines Show

“I’m looking forward to seeing guys that I grew up with in the amateurs have this national exposure, and to call some great fights.” - Daniel Jacobs on Broner-Porter

STAMFORD, Conn. - June 17, 2015 - In three days, on Saturday, June 20 at 8:30 p.m. ET, PBC on NBC returns to primetime at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., featuring a highly-anticipated showdown between former titleholders Adrien “The Problem” Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) and “Showtime” Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KOs), fighting at a catchweight of 144lbs. Coverage begins with the undefeated Errol Spence Jr. (16-0, 13 KOs) vs. hard-hitting veteran Roberto “La Amenaza” Garcia (37-3, 23 KOs) in a welterweight bout.

Blow-by-blow announcer Marv Albert, and analysts “Sugar” Ray Leonard and B.J. Flores call the action. DANIEL JACOBS MAKES PRIMETIME PBC ON NBC DEBUT

Current middleweight titleholder Daniel Jacobs (29-1-0, 26 KOs), previews Saturday’s NBC bouts and his primetime broadcast debut:

On Garcia-Spence: “This fight, for both guys, is the hump in their careers. Both guys have to win this fight in order to get into title contention. This fight is the stepping stone - with primetime exposure - to be recognized as top contenders in their division.”

On Broner-Porter: “This fight is extremely interesting because I’ve known both guys since the amateurs, and I consider both to be my friends. It’ll be hard to see them go at it - but this is boxing. I’ve fought friends before myself, so it’s nothing that we’re not used to. It’s also interesting, because both guys are from the same state and have been raised in the same boxing programs. When you make it to this level - when both guys have been world champions - it’s very rare to have guys from the same place fight each other. Stylistically, I’m thinking this fight is destined for greatness. This will be one of the best PBC matchups that we’ve seen thus far. I’m sure the fans feel the same way.”

On balancing training and broadcasting: “I’m fighting on August 1st - I’ve never been in the position where I’ve had to work on TV and train for a fight. It just enhances my level of focus. It’s putting my mind in the right place. I’ve always just had to worry about boxing and training, never anything else. Trying to juggle that is a challenge, but one I am up for and looking forward to.”

On overcoming cancer, becoming a title holder and a primetime broadcaster: “I was talking about it with my girlfriend the other day and she said, ‘You know what? I feel like your life is like a movie.’ I feel the same way. God has blessed me so much, and has allowed my life to look like an Oscar-nominated movie, right? Things have just been going so perfectly. Never would I have imagined stepping into the ring again and becoming a world champion, and to be the first cancer survivor to do so. I was just satisfied with coming back into the ring and fighting. But now, I’m having all of these other opportunities and I’m trying to take advantage of it because I realize how my life is perceived and how people view me now, as an inspiration. The position that I’m in is very rare.”
