College Hockey – Notre Dame Hosts No. 11 Providence in Hockey East Series Friday and Saturday on NBCSN

STAMFORD, Conn. – Feb. 9, 2015 – NBC and NBCSN will combine to present seven hockey games in seven days this week, highlighted by the NHL Game of the Week on NBC on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET, featuring Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins and Patrick Kane’s Chicago Blackhawks, as well as a Wednesday Night Rivalry showdown at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN between the Penguins and Pavel Datsyuk’s Detroit Red Wings.

Following Wednesday Night Rivalry, NBCSN presents the Wednesday Nightcap at 10:30 p.m. ET, as Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals visit Joe Pavelski and the San Jose Sharks. This week’s coverage begins tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, when the Blackhawks host Oliver Ekman-Larsson and the Arizona Coyotes. NBCSN rounds out the week’s coverage on Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. ET, as Zemgus Girgensons and the Buffalo Sabres host Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers.

In addition, NBCSN’s coverage of the 2014-15 college hockey season continues with a Hockey East series from South Bend, as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish host the No. 11 Providence Friars on Friday and Saturday nights.

NBC Sports Live Extra – NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, and tablets – will provide coverage this week’s NHL and college hockey games.

Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator and Sports Illustrated 2014 Media Person of the Year Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, analyst Eddie Olczyk and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will have the call for Sunday’s Penguins-Blackhawks NHL Game of the Week on NBC, while Emrick and McGuire will call Red Wings-Penguins on Wednesday Night Rivalry.

NHL Live, NBCSN’s pre- and post-game NHL studio show, airs tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET, and begins at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday and Sunday. Liam McHugh and Kathryn Tappen will host this week’s coverage alongside former players and analysts Mike Milbury, Keith Jones, Jeremy Roenick and Anson Carter. NHL GAME OF THE WEEK – PENGUINS-BLACKHAWKS – SUNDAY AT 12:30 P.M. ET ON NBC

The Blackhawks enter this week’s play looking to build off of a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on NBC’s NHL Game of the Week on Sunday afternoon, as Patrick Kane notched an assist to tie Dallas’ Tyler Seguin and Philadelphia’s Jakub Voracek for the NHL lead in points (59). Chicago (33-18-2, 68 pts) and Pittsburgh matchup for the second time this season, following the Blackhawks’ 3-2 shootout win over the Penguins on Wednesday Night Rivalry on Jan. 21. The Penguins (30-15-8, 68 pts) currently sit one point behind the New York Islanders for the lead in the Metropolitan Division.

 

WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIVALRY – RED WINGS-PENGUINS – WEDNESDAY AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Red Wings travel to Pittsburgh to face the Penguins on Wednesday Night Rivalry riding a three-game winning streak, in which they’ve outscored their opponents 10-2. Pavel Datsyuk carries a four-game point streak into Wednesday night’s game, while goaltender Petr Mrazek has won eight of his last 10 starts while filling in for an injured Jimmy Howard. Detroit (31-12-9, 71 pts) is 14-4-1 in its last 19 games, and defeated Pittsburgh 4-3 in overtime on Oct. 23, their only other meeting this season.

 

WEDNESDAY NIGHTCAP – CAPITALS AT SHARKS – WEDNESDAY AT 10:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Capitals and Sharks meet for the second and final time this season in a Wednesday Nightcap NBCSN, following San Jose’s 6-5 shootout victory in Washington on Oct. 14. Washington (28-16-10, 66 pts) sits two points behind Pittsburgh in the Metropolitan Division, while San Jose (28-19-7, 63) holds a two-point advantage over Vancouver and Calgary in the Pacific Division. Ovechkin tied the Rangers’ Rick Nash for the league lead in goals with his 33rd tally of the season in the Capitals’ 3-1 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon.

Randy Hahn (play-by-play) and Jamie Baker (analyst) will call the action from the SAP Center at San Jose in San Jose, Calif.

 

COYOTES-BLACKHAWKS – TONIGHT AT 8:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

This week’s coverage begins in Chicago tonight, as the Blackhawks host the Arizona Coyotes. Arizona (19-27-7, 45 pts) had its three-game point streak snapped in a 3-1 loss to Detroit on Saturday, and will look to avenge a 6-1 loss to the Blackhawks in their only meeting of the season on Jan. 20 in Chicago.

Pat Foley (play-by-play) and Eddie Olczyk (analyst) will have the call from United Center in Chicago, Ill.

 

FLYERS-SABRES – SUNDAY AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Flyers (23-22-8, 54 pts) travel to Buffalo to face the Sabres for the second time this season on Sunday night. In their previous meeting, Philadelphia held on for a 4-3 win over Buffalo, despite two goals from Zemgus Girgensons. The Flyers boast points in six straight games (5-0-1), while Buffalo fell to the Islanders by a score of 3-2 on Sunday night.

Dave Strader (play-by-play) and Brian Engblom (analyst) will have the call from the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

 

COLLEGE HOCKEY – NOTRE DAME VS. NO. 11 PROVIDENCE – FRIDAY AT 7:30 P.M. ET, SATURDAY AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

NBCSN presents a Hockey East weekend series on Friday and Saturday nights from South Bend, as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish welcome the No. 11 Providence Friars. Providence (17-9-2) enters the week following a 10-1 blowout win over UConn last Saturday. Notre Dame (12-14-4) is unbeaten in three straight games, including a 5-1 win at Maine on Saturday night.

Chris Cuthbert (play-by-play) and Anson Carter (analyst) will call Friday and Saturday night’s games from the Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Ind.
