ORLANDO, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2014) – The live two-hour RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship gets underway tonight at 10 p.m. ET from Las Vegas with eight of the longest hitters in the world teeing it up for the winner-take-all $250,000 prize. The PGA TOUR and European Tour co-sanction the WGC-HSBC Champions in China this week for the fourth and final World Golf Championships event of 2014. The tournament also is the second of four events in the European Tour’s Final Series. Eleven of the 12 European Ryder Cup team participants are in the field, along with five of the 12 members of the American team. The PGA TOUR also stages the Sanderson Farms Championship this week in Mississippi, an opposite field event that is being held in November for the first time since 2005.

Broadcast Notes:

Championship format: Eight finalists will compete in head-to-head matches with each competitor given a total of six drives per match to hit the ball as long as possible while still remaining in the landing grid. Players will hit their drives from a custom-built platform to the landing grid below surrounded by spectators.

Winner-take-all $250,000: Only one of the eight participants will walk away with a winner’s check – with all of the $250,000 allotted prize money going to the eventual champion.

Austin defends: Woody Austin defeated Cameron Beckman and Daniel Summerhays with a birdie on the first playoff hole to win his fourth career PGA TOUR victory, and his first since 2007.

New course, new spot on the TOUR schedule: The Country Club of Jackson hosts the event this week for the first time, after being held at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss. since 1994. This also is the first time since 2005 that the event will be played in the month of November, after recently being held as an opposite-field event during the British Open.
