GAME 1 – KINGS DEFEAT RANGERS 3-2 IN OVERTIME

Last night, the Kings erased a 2-0 first-period deficit to come from behind and eventually defeat the Rangers by a score of 3-2 in overtime. Benoit Pouliot’s breakaway goal and Carl Hagelin’s shorthanded score just 1:42 apart in the first period gave the Rangers a two-goal cushion, but Kyle Clifford answered with his first goal of the postseason late in the frame, and Drew Doughty evened the score at two early in the second period.

Henrik Lundqvist kept the game tied at two in the third period, stopping all 20 shots he faced to send the game to overtime, before Justin Williams converted on a turnover and beat Lundqvist 4:36 into the extra session to give the Kings the win.

With last night’s win, the Kings became the 14th team to come back from a multiple-goal deficit this postseason, setting the Stanley Cup Playoff record for the most multiple-goal comebacks in one postseason.

RANGERS-KINGS DELIVERS NBC’S SECOND-BEST STANLEY CUP FINAL GAME 1 OVERNIGHT RATING EVER

With a 3.8 metered market rating, last night’s overtime Game 1 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Final ranks as NBC’s second-best SCF Game 1 overnight ever, behind only last year’s triple-overtime Game 1 between the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks (4.8 overnight).

  • The overnight is up 58% as compared to Game 1 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Final, which also featured the L.A. Kings (vs. New Jersey Devils, 2.4 overnight).

  • New York delivered its best NHL rating ever on NBC/NBCSN with a 10.1 metered market rating, surpassing last week’s 8.5 rating for the Eastern Conference Final Game 6 on NBCSN.

  • Los Angeles drew a 7.1 metered market rating, ranking as L.A.’s third-best ever on NBC, trailing only Games 5 and 6 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Final, which were both championship-clinching games for the Kings (they won it in Game 6).

  • NBC was the No. 1 network in both markets during the game.

Following is the television schedule for the 2014 Stanley Cup Final, all times Eastern and subject to change.
