Live From the Masters, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. ET (taken from afternoon session)

Augusta National Golf Club

Augusta, Ga.

On predicting winners early at the Masters:

Johnny Miller – “I don’t really predict things until the first round is posted, because that’s the most nervous round in the majors and you can blow yourself right out of it with a 76 or 75 on these treacherous greens and tough holes.  So, what Phil needs, what Ernie needs, what all the guns need that haven’t been doing it, is a good, fast start.”

On Ben Hogan:

Miller – “He was so iconic and he was so amazingly great with his ball striking that, to this day among Tour players, he is the most influential golfers even among the new breed.  There’s more talk about Ben Hogan than Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer combined when it comes to swing theory or how you concentrate or just how you dedicate your life to the game.”

On remembering the feeling of his 1986 Masters victory:

Jack Nicklaus – “I can feel it, I just can’t find it.”

On the 11th Hole:

Nicklaus – “There’s about a half dozen tough shots on this golf course and the second shot on 11 is one of them that you just don’t play around with.  Hit it out to the right, take your medicine and move on.”

On first-round playing conditions:

Brad Faxon (@BradFaxon) – “There’s no big advantage to playing early or late today.”

On Fred Couples’ 71st round of par or better at the Masters:

Frank Nobilo (@FrankNobiloGC) – “A Masters wouldn’t be a Masters without Couples, and certainly without posting a sub-par score on round one, that’s for sure.”
