NHL RIVALS – BLACKHAWKS-RED WINGS – TUESDAY, 11 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

NHL Rivals, which debuts this week tonight at 11 p.m. ET on NBCSN, dovetails off of NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry, which Forbes dubbed, “the hottest new brand in sports.” This week’s episode will feature an Original Six rivalry dating back more than 85 years between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings, highlighting playoff and division battles from the 1950’s and 60’s, the rebirth of a rivalry in the late 1980’s, and last year’s seven-game semifinal thriller.

Former Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman: “I think they wanted to build their franchise around Pat LaFontaine, but he was picked third and I was picked fourth (in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft). I was thrilled, hoping Detroit was a good place for me to play quickly, so I was very excited when I was acquired by the team.”

Current Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews: “Even though we won a cup in 2010, we didn’t have to go through Detroit that year. For me, in my six years in the league, they’ve always been a measuring stick as far as what we want to be.”
