Brazilian Grand Prix on NBC Shows Triple-Digit Gains from 2012

NBC’s Four Formula One Races Up 9% from 2012 on FOX

STAMFORD, Conn. – December 4, 2013 – NBC Sports Group’s coverage of the 2013 Formula One™ season reached 10.297 million viewers for 19 races across NBC, NBCSN and CNBC, up 15% compared to FOX/SPEED’s coverage last season (8.949 million), according to data provided by The Nielsen Company. In addition, the four F1 races that aired on NBC this year averaged 1.133 million viewers, up 9% over FOX’s four-race season average in 2012 (1.038 million).

NBC’s broadcast of the Brazilian Grand Prix, F1’s season finale on Nov. 24, averaged 1.061 million viewers, up 117% against the same race last year on SPEED and ranking as the second most-watched F1 race in 2013 behind Monaco (1.413 million). Note: viewership for the U.S. Grand Prix on Nov. 17 was affected by preemptions necessitated by severe weather in many markets, including Chicago and Indianapolis.

Momentum for NBCSN’s coverage picked up in the second half of the year. NBCSN’s final race of 2013, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Nov. 3, delivered 354,000 viewers, ranking as NBCSN’s most-watched F1 race of the season. NBCSN’s telecasts of the Japanese Grand Prix (162,000) and Indian Grand Prix (209,000), the two races preceding Abu Dhabi, were up 33% and 34% compared to the same races on SPEED last year. Seven of the final eight races on NBCSN outperformed the comparable events on SPEED last year among adults 25-54.
