Note to Media: Golf Channel’s  communications team has launched @GolfChannelPR on Twitter, where you will be able to follow us for up-to-date announcements about everything Golf Channel, including top quotes from our “Notes and Quotes” summaries this week at the U.S. Open.

On weather conditions dictating that more players will have a chance to win

Arron Oberholser: “The guys striking the ball marginally, or not striking the ball all that well, are going to be brought more into the fold because their misses are not going to be punished as they would at Olympic last year or at Oakmont. You would be punished here too, very much, if it were dry and fast. But it is not going to play that way this year. You could get a guy you have never heard of winning the U.S. Open this year.”

On how players will attack Merion GC differently than previous U.S. Opens

Arron Oberholser: “Lines are going to be very different than they were in 1981. Guys are going to take lines over bunkers – the ball goes straighter and clubs go straighter – so I don’t know that they are going to maneuver the ball as much as they did back in those days. They are basically going to take straight lines, find out the carries on these doglegs and hit a club that goes from spot A to spot B and play in from there. Guys who like to work the ball – Phil, Bubba – are still going to work the ball. By and large, you are going to see Merion played a different way than it was played in 1981, 71 and 1950.”

On Tiger Woods’ preparation

Arron Oberholser: “He is one of the most prepared players the world of golf has ever seen.”
