NEW YORK – April 16, 2013Zdeno Chara and the Boston Bruins (56 pts.) host Drew Stafford and the Buffalo Sabres (42 pts.) at TD Bank Garden in Boston, Mass., on NBC Sports Network’s Wednesday Night Rivalry at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Bruins, who are in second place in the Northeast Division, need just one win to clinch a spot in the playoffs. The Sabres have won five of their last seven games and need to win out the rest of the season to keep their playoff hopes alive. Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, analyst Eddie Olczyk and ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will call the game.

Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. ET with NHL Live, NBC Sports Group’s NHL pregame show. Liam McHugh hosts NHL Live from Studio 2 at NBC Sports Group’s International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Conn., and will be joined by analysts and former NHL players Mike Milbury and Keith Jones.

PIERRE MCGUIRE ON SABRES-BRUINS:

“When the rivalry began both teams played on smaller ice surfaces in legendary buildings. ‘The Aud’ in Buffalo, and ‘The Garden’ in Boston were buildings where physical contact could not be avoided, and hard hitting was a staple of both team’s identities. The aggressive play has carried over to the next generation. The Sabres will not soon forget Boston LW Milan Lucic’s hit last season on Buffalo Goalie Ryan Miller. Wednesday night should be action packed.”

JEREMY ROENICK ON SABRES-BRUINS:

“The Sabres have recently jumped back in to the playoffs conversation, and need to win the rest of their games to make the postseason.  The Bruins are one game shy of a playoff spot, and are battling the Canadiens for first place in the Northeast Division. Every game left in the season counts for both teams.  Wednesday Night could prove to have major playoffs implications for the Sabres, Bruins and the entire Eastern Conference.”

In addition to NBC Sports Network’s Wednesday Night Rivalry matchup between the Sabres and Bruins, NBC and NBC Sports Network will also deliver coverage of nine other games over seven days, beginning Thursday night:
