PGA TOUR Professional Notah Begay III Joins Broadcast Teams at NBC, Golf Channel

Begay to Serve as Live Tournament Reporter and Golf Channel Studio Analyst Begay Begins This Week with Golf Channel’s Coverage of Sony Open in Hawaii

ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 9, 2013 – Four-time PGA TOUR winner Notah Begay III becomes a full-time member of NBC’s and Golf Channel’s on-air teams beginning this week with Golf Channel’s exclusive live tournament coverage of the Sony Open in Hawaii.  The announcement was made today by Golf Channel executive producer Molly Solomon and lead golf producer Tommy Roy.

Begay, 40, will serve as a walking course reporter during NBC and Golf Channel tournament broadcasts.  He also will be a frequent contributor to Golf Channel’s signature daily news programs, including Golf Central and will serve as an analyst for the network’s popular Live From news coverage at golf’s major championships and biggest events.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to join the Golf Channel and NBC golf broadcast teams,” said Begay.  “The game of golf is as exciting as ever and I look forward to utilizing my extensive experience to provide viewers with insight into the competition and its players.”

“Notah has a wealth of knowledge, experience and a tremendous passion for the game of golf, and we are excited for him to be expanding his role within the NBC Sports Group,” said Solomon.  “He already has demonstrated a knack for honest and candid analysis during Golf Channel’s ‘Live From’ coverage, and our viewers can expect the same when he reports from the golf course.”

“Notah is very well respected within the game both for his golf achievements and his expert analysis he has brought to Golf Channel the past few years,” said Roy.  “We are excited for him to join the team this week in Hawaii.”

A three-time All-American at Stanford University, Begay made his Golf Channel on-air debut as a studio analyst for the network’s Live From the Masters news coverage in 2010, and has contributed to the network’s Masters and U.S. Open news coverage the past three years.

One of the few players to shoot a 59 in tournament competition, Begay is the only full-blooded Native American to play on the PGA TOUR.  In 2005, he established the Notah Begay III Foundation, providing health and wellness education for Native American Youth.  He hosts the annual NB3 Challenge at Turning Stone Resort and Casino in upstate New York, a celebrity skins game that draws many of the top players from golf’s professional tours benefitting his foundation.
