Ryan Seacrest Social Media Segment

NOTE: During NBC’s coverage each day and night, the network will feature social media segments that shine a light on the messages, tweets and Olympic moments the world is sharing on Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms. NBC will produce social media segments during each day part, and the segments will be hosted by Ryan Seacrest, Michelle Beadle, and Tamron Hall.

On Facebook, the Queen got the most buzz. The favorite moment for men was the lighting of the Olympic flame and for women, not surprisingly, it was David Beckham.

On Twitter, the Queen inspired more than 1.2 million tweets and a photo of Paul McCartney was the most re-tweeted image from the Opening Ceremony.

The U.S. swim team’s video of “Call Me Maybe” had almost two million views.

Sports featured in the broadcast….

Men’s Swimming (Men’s 400 Meter IM – Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps)

“Will he even get on the Podium? No second and no third.”

-Dan Hicks on Michael Phelps placing fourth in the race.

“So far, these Olympic Games belong to Ryan Lochte.”

-Dan Hicks on Ryan Lochte taking the gold over Michael Phelps.

Phelps’ post-race interview: I don’t know, frustrating race this morning. I didn’t really feel that great. I figured 4:06 would be about first, and Ryan had a good one. I guess I saw Tiago and them in the first 50-free and I guess the plan we had coming into it wasn’t the best plan. I don’t know. I have a lot of races and I guess it’s just about putting this one behind me and moving onto the next one…It’s not the start I’d like, but, I don’t know. Like I said before, it’s frustrating. I don’t know. Just have to move on.”

Beach Volleyball (Misty May Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings)

“I pointed out their undefeated record to Kerri before the match and asked her if she thought it would be possible to carry the streak through the London Games. She told me that their plan was to win every set and match, and keep their opponents to under 17 points each set.”

-Chris Marlowe on the undefeated record of May-Treanor and Walsh in the Olympics. May-Treanor and Walsh went on to win their two sets and held their opponents to 18 points for each set.

“Once again, to those of you who are new to volleyball, Misty May Treanor and Kerri Walsh have never lost a match, not a set.”

-Chris Marlowe on the winning record May-Treanor and Walsh-Jennings have had during the past two Olympic Games (15 consecutive matches and 30 consecutive sets won in Athens & Beijing). Marlowe pointed out the record before the game and again early on in the second set. May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings went on to win the second set and the match, to continue the streak.
