NIKE PREFONTAINE CLASSIC LIVE TOMORROW ON NBC

Coverage begins at 3 p.m. ET

NEW YORK – May 31, 2012 – NBC presents livecoverage of the 38th annual Nike Prefontaine Classic fromHayward Field in Eugene, Ore. tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET.

 

The Prefontaine Classic, named after the late Steve Prefontaine, America’s legendary distance runner, is the premiere track and field meet in the United States and the only stop in North America on the prestigious World Athletics Tour. Featuring elite track and field athletes from around the world, only athletes ranked in the top-50 in the world in their events are eligible to compete. Since 2000, the Prefontaine Classic, sponsored by Nike, has been ranked first among all annual track and field meets outside of Europe by the International Association of Athletes Federation.

 

Elite American athletes participating include 2008 Beijing Olympic bronze medalist and 2009 Prefontaine record holder David Oliver competing in the 110m hurdles. 2008 Beijing Olympic silver medalist and shot-putter Christian Cantwell returns to event after setting the shot-put record at the 2010 Prefontaine Classic. On the women’s side, 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medalist Sanya Richards-Ross looks to improve her personal best as she holds the American 400m record.

 

ANNOUNCERS: NBC’s Olympic track and field broadcast team of Tom Hammond, Ato Boldon, Lewis Johnson and Dwight Stones will call all the action from Eugene, Ore.
