Swimming Play-by-Play

Jason Knapp serves as a swimming play-by-play commentator for NBC Olympics’ coverage of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Prior to his Paralympic Games assignment, Knapp most recently served as a wrestling and beach volleyball play-by-play announcer for NBC’s coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics. Rio marked the second Olympic assignment for Knapp, having previously served in the same capacity at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Knapp’s wrestling play-by-play experience includes the Big 10 Championships, the NWCA Cliff Keen National Duals, the NWCA All-Star Classic and the U.S. World Team Trials. Beyond wrestling, Knapp has called play-by-play for more than 15 sports in his career including conference championship events in the Big 10, Big East, Atlantic 10 and Conference USA, over two dozen NCAA Championships and six different NCAA sports. Knapp also served as play-by-play announcer for the World Series of Boxing on VERSUS, and was the sports director for NBC’s affiliate in Scranton, Pa.

Knapp currently works for various networks, but is primarily a play-by-play announcer and host for CBS Sports Network, Pac 12 Network, Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, and American Sports Network. In his various roles, he has called action spanning wrestling, football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, gymnastics, field hockey, ice hockey, baseball, rugby, water polo and swimming.

Knapp’s experience in broadcasting dates back to 1991 at his alma mater, Syracuse University, where he worked as a play-by-play announcer, color analyst and studio analyst for the Orange football and basketball teams.

A native of Medford, N.J., Knapp currently resides in Clark Summit, Pa.
