STAMFORD, Conn. – September 30, 2019 – NBC Sports drops the puck on the 2019-20 NHL season on Wednesday, when Conn Smythe Trophy winner Ryan O’Reilly and the defending Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues host Alex Ovechkin and the 2018 Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals on NBCSN’s NHL Face-Off at 8 p.m. ET. Coverage continues at 10:30 p.m. ET, when Marc-Andre Fleury and the Vegas Golden Knights take on Brent Burns and the San Jose Sharks in Las Vegas.

Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN with a special 90-minute edition of NHL Live, as host Kathryn Tappen, analysts Keith Jones and Patrick Sharp, and NHL insider Bob McKenzie preview the evening’s doubleheader and the upcoming 2019-20 season. Analyst Jeremy Roenick will be on-site in St. Louis to capture the scene outside Enterprise Center prior to the raising of the Blues’ first-ever Stanley Cup championship banner.

Seven-time Emmy Award-winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, who returns for his 15th season as NBC Sports’ lead NHL play-by-play commentator, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Eddie Olczyk and ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Brian Boucher will call Capitals-Blues from Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo. Brendan Burke and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will have the call of Sharks-Golden Knights from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

NBC Sports’ opening week of NHL coverage continues on Thursday when Zach Parise and Minnesota Wild face off against Pekka Rinne and Nashville Predators at 8 p.m. ET. Pre-game coverage begins with NHL Live at 7 p.m. ET. Chris Cuthbert (play-by-play), Mike Milbury (analyst) and AJ Mleczko (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.

CAPITALS-BLUES – WEDNESDAY AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The St. Louis Blues return to the ice for the first time after defeating the Boston Bruins in a thrilling seven-game series in the 2019 Stanley Cup Final to capture their first-ever title. Conn Smythe Trophy winner Ryan O’Reilly will look to follow up his 23-point Stanley Cup Playoffs performance alongside Vladimir Tarasenko, who scored a team high 33 goals last season.

Led by Alex Ovechkin, the Washington Capitals begin their season after falling to the Carolina Hurricanes in the First Round of last year’s playoffs in seven games. Ovechkin led the league in goals with 51 and finished with 89 points overall.

SHARKS-GOLDEN KNIGHTS – WEDNESDAY AT 10:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Sharks, led by Brent Burns’ team leading 83 points, hope to build on their Western Conference Final appearance last season when they were defeated by the Stanley Cup Champion Blues in six games.

The Golden Knights will look for their revenge on the Sharks, who ended the Golden Knights’ season last year in the First Round of the playoffs in seven games. Led by Marc-Andre Fleury and Jonathan Marchessault, Vegas reached the playoffs for a second straight season under head coach Gerard Gallant.

WILD-PREDATORS – THURSDAY AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Nashville Predators begin their 2019-20 campaign looking to bounce back after losing to the Dallas Stars in six games in the First Round of last year’s playoffs. Viktor Arvidsson (34) and Filip Forsberg (28) led the Predators in goals, while Ryan Johansen paced the team in points with 64. Pekka Rinne and his 2.42 goals against average last season will hope to provide the same stabilizing presence between the pipes.

Minnesota will look to improve in the 2019-2020 season under new general manager Bill Guerin after missing the playoffs last year. The Wild are led by Zach Parise who finished the year with a team-leading 28 goals and 61 points.
