Liam McHugh to Host Halftime Coverage with Simms On-Site at Notre Dame Stadium

STAMFORD, Conn. – September 25, 2019 – NBC Sports continues its 29th season of Notre Dame Football on NBC this weekend, when QB Ian Book and the No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-1) host the No. 18 Virginia Cavaliers (4-0) from Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind., this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC.

Virginia-Notre Dame is one of only two games featuring teams both ranked in the Top 25 this weekend (No. 21 USC at No. 17 Washington) and it is the only matchup featuring two Top 20 schools. Only the third meeting between the schools, Virginia visits South Bend this weekend for the first time in school history. Notre Dame has won the previous two matchups, most recently defeating Virginia 34-27 in Charlottesville in 2015. The Fighting Irish also won the first meeting between the schools in 1989.

NBC Sports’ Notre Dame Football commentary team is led by Mike Tirico, who is in his third full season as the voice of Notre Dame Football on NBC. He’ll be joined in the booth by Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie, who serves as lead analyst for Notre Dame Football on NBC, and sideline reporter Kathryn Tappen and rules analyst Terry McAulay.

NBC analyst and former University of Texas & NFL quarterback Chris Simms will serve as an in-game sideline analyst, breaking down the action and providing insights from the field. Liam McHugh hosts studio coverage of Notre Dame on NBC, alongside Simms.

In this weekend’s U.S. Bank Countdown to Kickoff opening segment, McHugh and Simms will report from among the fans in the stands within Notre Dame Stadium.

The Fighting Irish fell to 2-1 following a hard-fought 23-17 road loss to No. 3-ranked Georgia last week. Book passed for 275 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, and TE Cole Kmet led the team with nine receptions for 108 yards with a touchdown catch.

The Cavaliers are off to an undefeated 4-0 start this season, highlighted by wins against Pittsburgh and Florida State. Last week, Virginia knocked off Old Dominion, 28-17, at home behind QB Bryce Perkins’ two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing).
