PFT PM INTERVIEW HIGHLIGHTS:

Drew Brees on his legacy:I want to be viewed as a guy who left the game better than when he found it – somebody who played the game at a high level consistently for a very long time and did things the right way, treated people the right way, and who handled every element of being a professional athlete the right way.”

Drew Brees on last year’s NFC Championship Game: “That will always sting. I think more so just because you know that team will never exist anymore, right? You lose a guy like Mark Ingram, Max Unger retires, you lose a few others, and so that team, even though you have a lot of those same guys on this year’s team, that team will no longer exist, and you wanted it so bad for that team…I believe that everything happens for a reason to position you to accomplish the next thing, and so I feel like what happened two years ago in Minnesota put us in the position to make the run that we made last year, and I believe what happened last year will position us to make the run that we hope to make this year.”

PETER KING INTERVIEW HIGHLIGHTS:

Jason Witten on watching the Cowboys last season: “It was hard. It was really hard. And from minute one, I thought after I called a game, I said, ‘Man I thought I’d enjoy calling a game a little bit more than I probably did.’ I thought I’d enjoy that part of it. I didn’t have the fulfillment that I thought I probably would.”

Jason Witten on returning to playing: “There was something pulling me inside saying, ‘Hey there’s something left in the tank.’ There’s a fire inside me that says I think I can help a football team. I realize that this isn’t just going to be some fairytale ending. It doesn’t work that way. This is a ‘show me’ game. You’ve got go out there and prove it. You want to get humbled…line up and play in the National Football League for one snap. It will humble you really quickly.”

Ryan Fitzpatrick on why he’s lasted through eight different teams: “I think if I were to time travel and I was the 250th pick this season, I think it’s a lot harder because of the number of jobs that are out there. I think there are fewer. There are teams who go to two quarterbacks…you know maybe have a third on the practice squad instead of having three and a fourth on the practice squad. I think the lack of practice time in the offseason really hurts guys who aren’t first and second round picks to kind of cozy up and find a spot and develop a little bit. I think I was fortunate to come in when I did.”

Ryan Fitzpatrick on his different roles throughout his career: “I think it starts with me just loving this game. I mean I really do. I love all aspects of this game. I love the x’s and o’s part of it. I love the relationship part of it. I love the competitive part of it, whether it is in practice or on Sundays. And the other thing that I love about it and I think the thing that might be a little sick in my mind is that I love the adversity of it. I love that my career hasn’t been a straight path – that there’s been so many ups and downs.”
