STAMFORD, Conn. – August 22, 2019 – Current 200m world leader and U.S. champion Noah Lyles headlines Olympic sports programming this week across NBC Sports, when he competes in the Diamond League Track & Field series from Paris.

Lyles, who became the fourth-fastest man ever in the 200m when he ran 19.50 last month, won the gold in the 200m at the U.S. Track & Field Championships at the end of July. The Paris meet is the final event before the Diamond League Finals, which will be held in Zurich and Brussels in the coming weeks. Lyles is the two-time reigning Diamond League champion at 200 meters and has already qualified for this year’s final. Additional Americans competing in this week’s Diamond League series include 2016 Olympic silver medalist Joe Kovacs in men’s shot put, 2019 U.S. champion Teahna Daniels in the women’s 100m and three-time U.S. champion and 2016 Olympic silver medalist Sandi Morris in women’s pole vault.

Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA will present live coverage this Saturday, August 24, at 2 p.m. ET and NBCSN will air the event Sunday, August 25, at 10 p.m. ET.

EAA TRACK & FIELD: MADRID MEETING – MADRID, SPAIN

LIVE COVERAGE BEGINS SUNDAY, AUGUST 25 AT 2 P.M. ET ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA AND NBC SPORTS GOLD

The Madrid Meeting, an annual European track and field meet, will take place this Sunday, August 25, in Spain. Featured races are expected to be the men’s and women’s 100m and 400m.

Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA and NBC Sports Gold will present live coverage of the event Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.

 

WORLD ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS – LINZ-OTTENSHEIM, AUSTRIA

LIVE COVERAGE BEGINS SUNDAY, AUGUST 25 AT 3:40 A.M. ET ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

The world’s best rowers will compete for medals and Olympic quota spots at the World Rowing Championships in Austria. Fifty-nine boats per gender across seven disciplines can earn Olympic spots for their countries through their placements at Worlds. The US. will have 29 crews competing; its strongest is expected to be the women’s eight, in which the Americans have won the last three Olympic gold medals and are the defending world champions.

FIS SNOWBOARDING WORLD CUP: BIG AIR – CARDRONA, NEW ZEALAND

LIVE COVERAGE BEGINS SATURDAY, AUGUST 24 AT 8 P.M. ET ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

The snowboarding World Cup season begins on Saturday, August 24, with a big air competition in Cardrona, New Zealand. 2018 Olympic gold medalist Red Gerard is expected to headline the Americans.

WORLD BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS – BASEL, SWITZERLAND

OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA PRESENTS COVERAGE TONIGHT AT 9 P.M. ET

This week’s world badminton championships offer players the highest number of world ranking points, which will ultimately be used to determine Olympic qualification in April. Competitions this week include men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The U.S. is expected to be led by 2016 Rio Olympian and 2019 Pan American Games men’s doubles medalist Phillip Chew.

ICF WORLD CANOE SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIPS – SZEGED, HUNGARY

COVERAGE BEGINS THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 23, AT 8:15 A.M. PM AND CONCLUDES ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 25 AT MIDNIGHT ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

The World Canoe Sprint Championships will take place this weekend in Szeged, Hungary, where the majority of available Olympic quota places for the 2020 Tokyo Games will be allocated. The event will include all Olympic flatwater canoe and kayak events while canoe slalom, or whitewater canoeing, will be contested at a separate world championships in September.

Ann Marie Armstrong, a U.S. Navy member who made the semifinals in the C-1 200m event at last year’s World Championships, is expected to lead the U.S. contingent as women’s canoeing is set to make its Olympic debut in Tokyo next summer.

Coverage begins Friday, August 23 at 8:15 p.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA and continues throughout the weekend, concluding with the finals on Sunday night at midnight ET.

 

RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS WORLD CHALLENGE CUP – CLUJ-NAPOCA, ROMANIA

TV COVERAGE BEGINS SUNDAY, AUGUST 25 AT 10 P.M. ET ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

The gymnastics World Challenge Cup series continues with a rhythmic competition in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, for both groups and individual gymnasts. Five-time reigning U.S. all-around champion Laura Zeng and 2019 Pan American Games clubs champion Camilla Feeley are expected to represent the Americans in Cluj-Napoca.
