NBC SPORTS GROUP WINS EIGHT SPORTS EMMY AWARDS

For 10th Time in 11 Years, NBC Sunday Night Football Wins Emmy for Outstanding Live Sports Series

Telemundo Deportes Wins For 2018 FIFA World Cup Presentation; Telemundo’s Miguel Gurwitz Named Outstanding On-Air Personality in Spanish

NEW YORK, NY – May 20, 2019 – NBC Sports Group tonight won eight Sports Emmy Awards for excellence in sports television production, highlighted by honors for the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, NBC Sunday Night Football, and 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. The awards were presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

NBC Sunday Night Football, primetime television’s No. 1 show for an unprecedented eight consecutive years, became the first show to win 10 Sports Emmys in the Outstanding Live Sports Series category (earning the program’s 10th honor in 11 years).

NBCUniversal’s presentation of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics won Sports Emmys for Outstanding Sports Promotional Announcement (XXIII Olympic Winter Games: Best of U.S.), Outstanding Open/Tease (XXIII Olympic Winter Games: Always Start with the Dreams), and The Dick Schaap Outstanding Writing Award for XXIII Olympic Winter Games: Always Start with the Dreams.

Telemundo Deportes’ presentation of 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia earned the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Live Sports Coverage in Spanish.

NBC Sports Group also accounted for three on-air talent awards:

  • Mike “Doc” Emrick earned a record-setting sixth consecutive honor for outstanding play-by-play. Emrick has won seven of the past nine years in the category.
  • Michele Tafoya recorded her third Sports Emmy for Outstanding Sports Personality-Sports Reporter – the most wins by anyone in the category. She is also the only person to be a nominee in all eight years of the award’s existence.
  • Miguel Gurwitz earned the Sports Emmy for Outstanding On-Air Talent in Spanish.
