STAMFORD, Conn. – May 3, 2019 – NBC Sports’ exclusive Second Round coverage of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs continues this weekend with an array of games across NBC and NBCSN, highlighted by a pivotal Game 5 matchup between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Boston Bruins this Saturday at 7:15 p.m. ET on NBC, immediately following the network’s coverage of the 145th Kentucky Derby.

This weekend’s coverage starts tonight with a doubleheader on NBCSN beginning at 7 p.m. ET, as the New York Islanders look to avoid a Second Round sweep against the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4. Coverage shifts to the Western Conference at 9:30 p.m. ET, as the Dallas Stars face the St. Louis Blues in a crucial Game 5 with the series currently tied 2-2.

Pre-game coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN with NHL Live, and will feature a segment with Kathryn Tappen and NHL on NBC analysts AJ Mleczko and Kendall Coyne Schofield to discuss the recent professional women’s hockey boycott. Coyne Schofield is one of more than 200 players who announced yesterday that they will not play in a professional league next season.

In addition to Bruins-Blue Jackets on NBC, Saturday’s coverage features a Game 5 matchup on NBCSN at 10 p.m. ET, as the Colorado Avalanche take on the San Jose Sharks with their series tied 2-2.

Sunday’s Second Round action features Game 6 between the Blues and the Stars at 3 p.m. ET on NBC, followed by Game 5 between the Hurricanes and the Islanders on NBCSN at 7 p.m. ET, if necessary.

TONIGHT – MAY 3

The Hurricanes and the Islanders meet in Game 4 tonight in Raleigh at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Carolina took a 3-0 series lead on Wednesday night with a 5-2 victory over the Isles. Hurricanes captain Justin Williams scored the go-ahead goal in the third period before the Canes added two empty-net goals to secure the win. 35-year-old goalie Curtis McElhinney stopped 28 of 30 shots in the win and became the oldest goalie to make his first career playoff start in the game after filling in for injured netminder Petr Mrazek.

Coverage shifts to the Western Conference tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, as the Stars take on the Blues in Game 5 in St. Louis. Dallas evened the series at two games apiece with a 4-2 win over St. Louis on Wednesday night. Goalie Ben Bishop made 27 saves in the victory, while Tyler Seguin, Mats Zuccarello and Alexander Radulov each had two assists for the Stars.

 

SATURDAY – MAY 4

Saturday night’s Game 5 coverage between the Blue Jackets and Bruins from Boston begins at 7:15 p.m. ET on NBC, immediately following the network’s coverage of the 145th Kentucky Derby. The Bruins evened the series at two games apiece with a 4-1 victory on Thursday night. Patrice Bergeron scored twice and David Pastrnak had a goal and assist, while goalie Tuukka Rask made 39 saves.

Coverage again shifts west at 10 p.m. ET on NBCSN for Game 5 between the Avalanche and Sharks in San Jose. Colorado tied the series at two games apiece on Thursday night with a 3-0 win against San Jose. Goalie Philipp Grubauer made 32 stops, while the Avalanche’s topline of Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, and Mikko Rantanen combined for a goal and two assists in the win. Colin Wilson and Erik Johnson also contributed goals for Colorado.

 

SUNDAY – MAY 5

NBC’s coverage continues Sunday at 3 p.m. ET with Blues-Stars Game 6 at American Airlines Center in Dallas. If necessary, NBC Sports will present coverage of Game 5 between the Hurricanes at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

 

KENDALL COYNE SCHOFIELD TO SERVE AS ANALYST TONIGHT FOR GAME 5 OF STARS-BLUES SERIES

2018 Olympic gold medalist Kendall Coyne Schofield will serve as an analyst tonight for Game 5 of the Dallas Stars-St. Louis Blues Second Round series, which will air at 9:30 p.m. ET. Coyne Schofield served as an analyst for Game 4 on Wednesday, and made her debut as an analyst with NBC Sports during the 2018-19 regular season and has served as a studio analyst for NHL Network.

Coyne Schofield was a member of the NWHL’s Minnesota Whitecaps this past season and represented the club at the NWHL All-Star Game. The Whitecaps defeated the Buffalo Beauts by a score of 2-1 in overtime in the Isobel Cup Final this season to capture the league title. Most recently, Coyne Schofield skated for Team USA at the 2019 IIHF Women’s World Championship, where the U.S. defeated Finland in the gold-medal game to capture its fifth straight title.
