Mike “Doc” Emrick, Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, Michele Tafoya, Andres Cantor, and Miguel Gurwitz Earn Outstanding Sports Personality Nominations

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 3, 2019 – NBC Sports Group earned 38 Sports Emmy Award nominations for 2018, highlighted by 12 nominations for its coverage of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games from PyeongChang, South Korea – the most of any single program this year.

The announcement was made today by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Winners will be announced by the Academy on Monday, May 20, at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City.

Highlights of NBC Sports Group’s nominations:

  • NBC Sports Group’s 38 nominations are the second most it has ever received in a Winter Olympic year;
  • NBC Sports Group’s coverage of PyeongChang 2018 receives 12 nominations, the most for any single program;
  • Sunday Night Football – primetime television’s No. 1 show – is nominated again for Outstanding Live Sports Series, which it has won nine times in the past 10 years;
  • GOLF Channel earns seven nominations, a record for the network;
  • Telemundo earns a record seven nominations, headlined by its Spanish-language coverage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup;
  • Mike “Doc” Emrick, who has won the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Sports Personality – Play-by-Play in five consecutive years, and six of the last eight, is nominated once again in the category;
  • Mike Tirico is nominated for Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Host for his work on the PyeongChang Olympics, Football Night In America, Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup horse racing, and golf coverage;
  • Cris Collinsworth, who has won 16 Sports Emmys, is nominated for Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Event Analyst;
  • Michele Tafoya, a two-time winner of the Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Reporter Emmy, was nominated for the eighth time in the eight-year history of the category;
  • Andres Cantor, winner of three Sports Emmys, and Miguel Gurwitz were nominated for Outstanding On-Air Talent in Spanish.

 

NBC Sports Group earns a total of 38 nominations, including a record seven nominations for both GOLF Channel and Telemundo, as well as the first ever nomination for The Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA.
