STAMFORD, Conn. – February 11, 2019 – Two of the NHL’s brightest stars will shine this week on NBC Sports’ Wednesday Night Hockey, when Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers visit Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins this Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
This week is highlighted by NBC Sports’ coverage of Hockey Day in America this Sunday, February 17, with an NHL tripleheader across NBC and NBCSN. NBC Sports’ studio will travel to Hockeytown for Hockey Day in America, with coverage originating from the heart of Downtown Detroit at The Rink at Campus Martius Park this Sunday.
Sunday’s Hockey Day in America coverage begins at noon ET on NBC with pre-game coverage leading into Rangers-Penguins at 12:30 p.m. ET, followed by Blues-Wild at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC. The tripleheader wraps up on NBCSN at 6 p.m. ET with the Red Wings hosting the Flyers. More details surrounding NBC Sports’ Hockey Day in America coverage will be announced this week.
NBC Sports’ week of NHL action begins tonight with Penguins-Flyers at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN and continues Tuesday with Blackhawks-Bruins at 7 p.m. ET.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY – OILERS-PENGUINS – 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
The Oilers (24-26-5, 53 pts) enter the week four points behind St. Louis and Minnesota, which occupy the two Wild Card spots in the crowded Western Conference playoff picture. Edmonton is coming off a 5-2 loss to the Sharks on Saturday. Leon Draisaitl (32 goals) and Connor McDavid (31 goals) are both currently in the NHL’s top 10 in goals scored.
Pittsburgh (28-20-7, 63 pts) occupies the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, and enter the week following a 5-4 loss to the league-leading Lightning on Saturday. Sidney Crosby passed Mario Lemieux for most games played in Penguins history in the loss. The Pens visit Philadelphia tonight on NBCSN.
John Forslund (play-by-play), U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Eddie Olczyk (analyst), and Emmy Award-winner Pierre McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. Pa. Pre-game coverage starts at 7 p.m. ET with NHL Live, hosted by Liam McHugh alongside Mike Milbury, Keith Jones and Bob McKenzie. Additionally, Kathryn Tappen will be providing reports and conducting interviews on-site in Pittsburgh.
HOCKEY DAY IN AMERICA – RANGERS-PENGUINS – SUNDAY AT 12:30 P.M. ET ON NBC
New York (24-23-8, 56 pts) is seven points behind Pittsburgh for the second Wild Card spot and defeated Toronto, 4-1, on Sunday at home. Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev had a career-high 55 saves in the win for the Rangers. The Penguins beat the Rangers, 7-2, in their only previous meeting this season on January 2, as Crosby was one of five Pens to record a goal and an assist.
Forslund (play-by-play) and McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from Pittsburgh.
HOCKEY DAY IN AMERICA – BLUES-WILD – SUNDAY AT 3:30 P.M. ET ON NBC
The Blues and Wild enter the week in the first and second Wild Card spots in the Western Conference, respectively. St. Louis (27-22-5, 59 pts) has won six consecutive games, including a 5-4 overtime win against Nashville on NBC on Star Sunday Presented by AT&T. Vladimir Tarasenko netted a hat trick in the win, including the game-winner in OT. Minnesota (27-24-5, 59 pts) is coming of a 2-1 loss to the Islanders. The Wild beat the Blues, 3-2, in their most recent encounter on Nov. 11, as Zach Parise scored for Minnesota in the win.
Six-time Emmy Award-winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick (play-by-play), Olczyk (analyst) and Brian Boucher (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
HOCKEY DAY IN AMERICA – FLYERS-RED WINGS – SUNDAY AT 6 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
The Flyers (25-23-7, 57 pts) are one of the NHL’s hottest teams, posting a 9-0-1 record in their last 10 games, to move back into playoff contention. Goalie Carter Hart won his eighth straight decision in Philadelphia’s 6-2 win against Anaheim on Saturday, powered by a four-goal first period. Detroit (21-28-7, 49 pts) has dropped three straight games, including a 5-2 loss to Chicago on Sunday. This Sunday’s matchup is the second half of a home-and-home between the Wings and Flyers, which opens on Saturday in Philadelphia.
Chris Cuthbert (play-by-play), AJ Mleczko (analyst), and Joe Micheletti (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich.
PENGUINS-FLYERS – TONIGHT AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
The Flyers host the Penguins in Philly tonight for the first time this season. Flyers forwards Sean Couturier and Jakub Voracek are riding six-game point streaks entering the game. In their most recent meeting on Dec. 1, the Flyers scored twice in the third period to beat the Penguins, 4-2.
Gord Miller (play-by-play) and Boucher (‘Inside-the-Glass’) will have the call from Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa. Pre-game coverage starts at 6 p.m. ET with NHL Live, hosted by Paul Burmeister with Jeremy Roenick and Anson Carter.
BLACKHAWKS-BRUINS – TUESDAY AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
Chicago (23-24-9, 55 pts) has won seven consecutive games to move within four points of the two Wild Card spots in the Western Conference. The Hawks have been led by Patrick Kane, who scored and added an assist in Sunday’s 5-2 win against Detroit to extend his point streak to 14 games. Kane has posted 44 points (18g/26a) in his past 22 games.
Boston (31-17-8, 70 pts) is one point behind second-place Toronto in the Atlantic Division and is coming off a 2-1 overtime win over Colorado on Sunday, as Brad Marchand scored the game-winner with 57 seconds left in the extra session.

No. 15 Notre Dame hosts Wisconsin on Friday at 7 p.m. ET and Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN. The Fighting Irish (14-10-3) were swept by No. 2 Ohio State on Feb. 1-2, while the Badgers were swept by the Buckeyes this past weekend.
