Fareed Debuts March 1 on NBCSN’s Premiership Rugby Coverage

STAMFORD, Conn. – February 5, 2019 – Ahmed Fareed, an anchor and reporter for NBC Sports Bay Area for the past six years, will join NBC Sports Group’s national networks (NBC and NBCSN) to work as a host and reporter on a variety of events and properties, it was announced today. He will relocate to the East Coast for the new position.

Fareed, who served as a studio host for NBCUniversal’s presentations of the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, begins his new role hosting Premiership Rugby on NBCSN on March 1 (11 a.m. ET).

“We look forward to Ahmed moving over to NBC and NBCSN. We’ve admired his work at Bay Area for a long time and finally had the opportunity to have him join us in Connecticut,” said Sam Flood, Executive Producer & President, Production, NBC & NBCSN.

“After serving as a host for two Olympics ‘on loan’ from Bay Area, we are excited to have Ahmed join us full-time,” said Rebecca Chatman, Vice President and Coordinating Producer, NBC Olympics.

“After working closely with so many great people for the last two Olympics, I’m excited for the opportunity to work on many of NBC Sports Group’s properties,” Fareed said.

Most recently, from 2013-18, Fareed served as a host and reporter for NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California (previously Comcast SportsNet Bay Area and Comcast SportsNet California), covering Northern California’s teams: MLB’s San Francisco Giants and Oakland A’s, NBA’s Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings, NHL’s San Jose Sharks, MLS’ San Jose Earthquakes and NFL’s San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders.

A two-time Emmy Award-winner, he served as an anchor and reporter for the Giants Pregame Live and Giants Postgame Live, SportsNet Central and various studio shows.  While at NBC Sports Bay Area, Fareed covered a Giants World Series Championship (2014) and three Warriors Championships (2015, 2017, 2018).

Previously, Fareed served as a host and reporter at MLB Network (2011-2012), appearing in studio programming, including MLB Tonight, Hot Stove, Quick Pitch and 30 Clubs in 30 Days.

A native of Sparta, Mich., Fareed is a graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, where he majored in Broadcast Journalism.
