NHL ON NBC CELEBRATES DAY 2 OF “NEW YEAR’S GOALS” WITH “WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY” DOUBLEHEADER TONIGHT ON NBCSN

NBC Sports to Deliver 11 NHL & College Hockey Games During First 11 Days of 2019

27 Hockey Games to Air on NBC & NBCSN in January, Including Six This Week

Campaign Continues Tonight with Wednesday Night Hockey Doubleheader – Penguins at Rangers at 7 p.m. ET, Followed by Sharks-Avalanche at 9:30 p.m. ET

STAMFORD, Conn. – January 2, 2019 – NHL on NBC continues its “New Year’s Goals” campaign – celebrating 11 different matchups during the first 11 days of 2019 – with a Wednesday Night Hockey doubleheader tonight, as Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins visit Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Coverage shifts to the Centennial State at 9:30 p.m. ET, as Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche host Brent Burns and the San Jose Sharks.

Pre-game coverage begins at 6 p.m. ET with NHL Live, hosted by Kathryn Tappen alongside analysts Patrick Sharp and Keith Jones, and insider Darren Dreger.

In a nod to the many goals that will be scored by the players on the ice in January, and the annual New Year’s Day tradition of setting goals for the new year, NBC Sports will share and highlight “New Year’s Goals” and resolutions from members of the NHL on NBC on-air team, players, fans, and others. The campaign will feature on-air segments, promotions, and graphics on NBC and NBCSN.

In addition, “New Year’s Goals” social media elements will be shared across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, NBCSports.com and NBC Sports Digital’s portfolio of platforms.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY – PENGUINS AT RANGERS AT 7 P.M. ET

The Penguins (21-12-6, 48 pts) defeated the Minnesota Wild, 3-2, on Monday to earn their season-high sixth straight win. In their last 10 games, the Penguins are 8-2-0, and currently sit three points behind the Washington Capitals for first place in the Metropolitan Division. Phil Kessel recorded three points for the third consecutive game in Pittsburgh’s victory over Minnesota.

The Rangers (17-14-7, 41 pts) earned their second consecutive victory with a 2-1 defeat of the St. Louis Blues on Monday. Mats Zuccarello and Boo Nieves recorded their fourth and second goals of the season, respectively, in the win. The Rangers are 4-2-4 in their last 10 games.

Kenny Albert (play-by-play) and Brian Boucher (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will call Penguins-Rangers from Madison Square Garden.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY DOUBLEHEADER – SHARKS AT AVALANCHE AT 9:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Sharks’ (21-13-7, 49 pts) two-game winning streak was snapped in an 8-5 loss to the Calgary Flames on Monday. San Jose is 6-2-2 in its last 10 games, and currently sits three points out of first place in the Pacific Division. Brent Burns paces the team with 40 points.

The Avalanche (19-13-8, 46 pts) look to snap a five-game losing streak on Wednesday. Colorado fell to Los Angeles, 3-2, in overtime on Monday. Through 40 games, Mikko Rantanen (62) and Nathan MacKinnon (59) rank second and third, respectively, in the NHL in points. Additionally, MacKinnon ranks tied for fourth in the league in goals with 24.

John Forslund (play-by-play) and Pierre McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will call Sharks-Avalanche from Pepsi Center.
