NHL ON NBC CELEBRATES “NEW YEAR’S GOALS”

NBC Sports to Deliver 11 NHL & College Hockey Games During First 11 Days of 2019

27 Hockey Games to Air on NBC & NBCSN in January, Including Six This Week

2019 NHL Bridgestone Winter Classic® – Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks – Today at 1 p.m. ET on NBC

STAMFORD, Conn. – January 1, 2019 – As part of NBC Sports’ coverage of the 2019 NHL Bridgestone Winter Classic® on New Year’s Day, NHL on NBC will launch “New Year’s Goals,” a campaign celebrating 11 different matchups during the first 11 days of 2019, and 27 games in total across NBC and NBCSN in January, including six this week.

Coverage begins with the 11th installment of the annual New Year’s Day game today at 1 p.m. ET on NBC, as Brad Marchand and the Boston Bruins face off against Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks from historic Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind.

Mike Tirico will host the network’s Winter Classic pre-game coverage alongside the NHL Live studio team of host Kathryn Tappen, and analysts Mike Milbury, Keith Jones and Jeremy Roenick. Six-time Emmy Award-winner and La Fontaine, Ind., native Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Eddie Olczyk, and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will have the call.

In a nod to the many goals that will be scored by the players on the ice in January, and the annual New Year’s Day tradition of setting goals for the new year, NBC Sports will share and highlight “New Year’s Goals” and resolutions from members of the NHL on NBC on-air team, players, fans, and others. The campaign will feature on-air segments, promotions, and graphics on NBC and NBCSN.

In addition, “New Year’s Goals” social media elements will be shared across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, NBCSports.com and NBC Sports Digital’s portfolio of platforms.

2019 BRIDGESTONE NHL WINTER CLASSIC® – BRUINS-BLACKHAWKS – TODAY AT 1 P.M. ET ON NBC

The 2019 NHL Winter Classic will mark Chicago’s fourth and Boston’s third appearance in the annual New Year’s Day game. The Blackhawks are 0-3-0 all-time in the Winter Classic, with their most recent loss coming against the St. Louis Blues in the 2017 NHL Winter Classic at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Mo. Boston defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 2-1, at Boston’s Fenway Park in 2010, and lost 5-1 to the Montreal Canadiens in 2016 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY – PENGUINS AT RANGERS AT 7 P.M. ET

The Penguins (21-12-6, 48 pts) defeated the Minnesota Wild, 3-2, on Monday to earn their season-high sixth straight win. In their last 10 games, the Penguins are 8-2-0, and currently sit three points behind the Washington Capitals for first place in the Metropolitan Division. Phil Kessel recorded three points for the third consecutive game in Pittsburgh’s victory over Minnesota.

The Rangers (17-14-7, 41 pts) earned their second consecutive victory with a 2-1 defeat of the St. Louis Blues on Monday. Mats Zuccarello and Boo Nieves recorded their fourth and second goals of the season, respectively, in the win. The Rangers are 4-2-4 in their last 10 games.

Kenny Albert (play-by-play) and Brian Boucher (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will call Penguins-Rangers from Madison Square Garden.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY DOUBLEHEADER – SHARKS AT AVALANCHE AT 9:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Sharks’ (21-13-7, 49 pts) two-game winning streak was snapped in an 8-5 loss to the Calgary Flames on Monday. San Jose is 6-2-2 in its last 10 games, and currently sits three points out of first place in the Pacific Division. Brent Burns paces the team with 40 points.

The Avalanche (19-13-8, 46 pts) look to snap a five-game losing streak on Wednesday. Colorado fell to Los Angeles, 3-2, in overtime on Monday. Through 40 games, Mikko Rantanen (62) and Nathan MacKinnon (59) rank second and third, respectively, in the NHL in points. Additionally, MacKinnon ranks tied for fourth in the league in goals with 24.

John Forslund (play-by-play) and Pierre McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will call Sharks-Avalanche from Pepsi Center.
