The award show presents honors in six categories: Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year, Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, SportsKid of the Year, and three separate awards given to athletes who inspired, amazed and surprised the entire sports universe in 2018.
The honor of Sportsperson of the Year is given to the athlete, coach, or team who best exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship and achievement, while inspiring others on and off the field.
