STAMFORD, Conn. – Oct. 10, 2018 – First-year starter Patrick Mahomes and the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs travel to Foxborough, Mass., to face Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in an AFC showdown on NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Coverage begins with Football Night in America at 7 p.m. ET on NBC, followed by a new, earlier SNF kickoff time of 8:20 p.m. ET, from Gillette Stadium.

Calling Chiefs-Patriots is Al Michaels (play-by-play), in his record 33rd season as the voice of the NFL’s premier primetime package; 16-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth; and two-time Emmy Award-winning sideline reporter Michele Tafoya. This marks the 10th season that Michaels and Collinsworth will serve as the announce team in the NBC broadcast booth. In addition, three-time Super Bowl referee and SNF’s new rules analyst Terry McAulay will join Michaels and Collinsworth in the booth.

One of two remaining undefeated teams entering Sunday, the Chiefs rank second in points (35.0) and fifth in total yards (413.0) this season. Mahomes leads the league with 14 touchdown passes and ranks second in the AFC with a 112.7 passer rating. Second-year running back Kareem Hunt ranks fourth in the NFL in rushing yards (376), and wide receiver Tyreek Hill ranks third in the AFC in receiving yards (425). The Chiefs defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 30-14 last Sunday, with the help of five sacks and five takeaways.

The Patriots have outscored their opponents 76-31 in two consecutive wins, including a 38-24 victory over the Indianapolis Colts last Thursday. In the victory, Brady became the third player in NFL history to throw 500 career touchdown passes, and the first player to accomplish the feat for a single franchise. Brady has an NFL-record 199 career regular-season victories and can become the first quarterback in league history to record 200 for his career on Sunday.

This marks the 36th meeting between the two franchises. Kansas City defeated New England 42-27 in last year’s season-opener on NBC. The Chiefs lead the all-time series, 18-14-3, and are 1-3 at Gillette Stadium.

NBC’S “SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL” IS PRIMETIME TELEVISION’S NO. 1 SHOW FOR UNPRECEDENTED SEVENTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR:

The last seven years of NBC’s Sunday Night Football (2011-17) have been history-making, as SNF has been primetime TV’s No. 1 show for an unprecedented seven consecutive seasons – breaking its tie with American Idol (six) for the most consecutive years atop the charts (since 1950), based on live plus same day data provided by Nielsen. Prior to 2011, a sports series had never been primetime television’s top show for a full season. Sunday Night Football has also ranked as the No. 1 show in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic for eight consecutive TV seasons.

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING:
Flexible scheduling will be used in Weeks 11-17. Additionally, in Weeks 5-10, flexible scheduling may be used in no more than two weeks. In Weeks 5-16, the schedule lists the games tentatively set for Sunday Night Football on NBC. Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game would be moved to an afternoon start time. Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games airing on Thursday or Monday nights.

A flexible scheduling move would be announced at least 12 days before the game. For Week 17, the Sunday night game will be announced no later than six days prior to December 30. The schedule does not list a Sunday night game in Week 17, but an afternoon game with playoff implications will be moved to that time slot. Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups in all Sunday time slots in those weeks and gives “surprise” teams a chance to play their way into prime time.
