STAMFORD, Conn. – Oct. 4, 2018 – NBC Sports will present a one-hour program highlighting the action from the 2018 ISA World Surfing Games, held last month in Tahara, Japan, this Friday at 8 p.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA.

The WSG returned to Japan for the first time since 1990, and featured nearly 200 surfers who competed in individual men’s and women’s events while also earning points for their respective nations in team events. Japan’s Kanoa Igarashi and Australia’s Sally Fitzgibbons headlined the field in Tahara, while the U.S. earned bronze in the team rankings. Other top athletes included Brazil’s Ian Gouveia and New Zealand’s Paige Hareb.

The 2019 and 2020 World Surfing Games will serve as qualifying events for the 2020 Tokyo Games, where surfing will make its Olympic debut.
