STAMFORD, Conn. – September 12, 2018 – NBC Sports presents 12 hours of live coverage of the 2018 FISA World Rowing Championships, as the U.S. women’s eight searches for redemption in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, after failing to reach the podium for the first time in 11 years at last year’s World Championships. Live coverage begins this Thursday at 3:30 a.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA.

The highlight of the international rowing calendar, the 2018 FISA World Rowing Championships features over 900 participants from across 62 countries, including a U.S. contingent of 27 crews. Headlining the U.S. team is the women’s eight, led by 2016 Olympic gold medalists Katelin Guregian and Emily Regan, which looks to bounce back after its unprecedented 11-year winning streak at both the World Championships and Olympics was snapped at the World Championships last year in Florida. Prior to 2017, the Americans’ flagship boat had won every major title since 2006, most recently claiming Olympic gold at the 2016 Rio Games. In Plovdiv, the Americans have advanced to Sunday’s A Final.

On Wednesday, the U.S. men’s eight broke a world championships record (5:19.20), just missing the world record, during heats to automatically qualify for the final on Sunday. Led by coach Mike Teti, who directed the U.S. men’s eight to Olympic gold in 2004, the crew returns five athletes from the 2017 world silver medal-winning team, including Rio Olympians Mike DiSanto, Glenn Ochal and Alex Karwoski.

Live coverage on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA will be streamed on OlympicChannel.com, the Olympic Channel app, NBCSports.com, and the NBC Sports app.

All rowing events will be presented as part of the Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA partnership among NBCUniversal, the IOC, and the USOC.
