STAMFORD, Conn. – August 8, 2018 – Five-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky and seven-time world champion Caeleb Dressel headline live coverage of the Pan Pacific Championships this week from Tokyo, Japan – the biggest international swimming meet of the year. Live coverage begins this Thursday, August 9, at 5 a.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA. NBC will air coverage of the event this Saturday, August 11, and Sunday, August 12, at 4 p.m. ET.
The top swimmers from non-European nations will converge in Tokyo for the Pan Pacific Championships, which will help determine the roster for next year’s World Championships. Ledecky, who won three races at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships in July, and Dressel, who won the 100m butterfly, are expected to headline the field. Four-time Olympic medalist Simone Manuel, three-time Rio Olympic champion Ryan Murphy and 100m backstroke world record holder Kathleen Baker are also slated to compete.
Ledecky, who shattered her own world record in the 1500m freestyle in May, is expected to compete in most freestyle events, while Dressel is scheduled to compete in the men’s 100m fly on Saturday.
Dan Hicks (play-by-play) will call the action on NBC on Saturday and Sunday alongside three-time Olympic gold medalist and analyst Rowdy Gaines and reporter Ahmed Fareed.
