The 147TH Open Leaderboard

T-1      Jordan Spieth              -9

T-1      Xander Schauffele      -9

T-1      Kevin Kisner              -9

4          Kevin Chappell          -7

5          Francesco Molinari     -6

On Saturday’s third round at The Open
Frank Nobilo – “Carnoustie has never played like this. There’s 39 players in red numbers. That’s not the Carnoustie we were expecting at the start of the week. I’m sure that’s not the Carnoustie that players were expecting. But for us as viewers, it’s just a great leaderboard. You could see a Woods comeback tomorrow. You could see a Rory McIlroy comeback. You could see Spieth at the top.”

On the three tied at 9-under at the top of the leaderboard
Brandel Chamblee – “I really do think that if anybody chasing them has a chance, they’re going to have to do something that would make what Paul Lawrie did pale in comparision.”

On Xander Schauffele
Frank Nobilo – “How quickly he has matured… He’s an opportunist. He does have the X factor, and I don’t just mean in his name.”
Chamblee – “He gets in the moment and he’s undeterred by it. Big moments do not scare him. Not one bit.”

On Jordan Spieth
Chamblee – “Something about major championships brings out the best in Jordan Spieth.”

On Woods
Chamblee – “I was absolutely blown away by some of the iron shots he was hitting… He leads the field in finding fairways. We knew he was going to hit some irons this week, and we knew he was pretty darn good at hitting those irons. But what he did today, it looked beautiful to see the old Tiger coming back.”
Nobilo – “This is a style of play that also shows you his stubbornness. And I say that as a compliment. He’s obviously come with a gameplan. Probably even figured out maybe a winning score and said okay, ‘I’m going to get there by doing it this way.’ It’s a huge sign. It was a great day for golf.”
