The Verizon IndyCar Series moves from its longest lap of the year at Road America (4.048 miles) to the shortest lap of the year at Iowa Speedway (0.875 miles). Iowa is dubbed “The Fastest Short Track on the Planet,” as IndyCar drivers average over 180 mph and regularly clock laps under 18 seconds.

Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) has driven his way into a tie for second place in the championship standings alongside teammate Alexander Rossi. Hunter-Reay is a three-time winner at Iowa (2012, 2014 and 2015).

Four-time series champion Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) has built 45-point lead over Rossi and Hunter-Reay atop the standings, and boasts five podiums in his last six races, including victories at Texas and Detroit. Last year’s series champion Josef Newgarden is coming off of a win at Road America, and currently sits fourth in the championship standings, 50 points behind Dixon.

Live coverage from Iowa begins Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN with qualifying, prior to pre-race coverage with IndyCar Live Presented by Verizon on Sunday at 2 p.m. Pre-race coverage will also include a feature by Robin Miller on Hunter-Reay, examining his recent charge towards the top of the driver standings and his overall career success at Iowa.

Robin Miller, Kevin Lee, Jon Beekhuis and Katie Hargitt will report from the pits. In addition, NBC Sports will present the Indy Lights Iowa 100 on Sunday at 11 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
