NBC Sports Regional Networks Deliver Digital Growth for NBA & NHL Championship Parade Coverage

On Tuesday, June 12, NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports Washington combined to provide 10 hours of live coverage of the Golden State Warriors’ and Washington Capitals’ championship parades, respectively, generating more than five million minutes streamed.

NBC Sports Bay Area (NBCSBA) delivered more than five hours of live coverage from the Warriors’ championship parade in Oakland, Calif., to celebrate the back-to-back Larry O’Brien Trophy winners. NBCSBA’s live parade coverage on NBCSportsBayArea.com and the NBC Sports app generated nearly two million minutes streamed, a 69% increase over last year’s parade. During the NBA Finals, NBCSBA garnered over 31 million video views, 2.5 million engagements, and 600,000 comments across all social media platforms.  NBCSBA’s video featuring Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith after Game 1 of the Finals went viral with more than 300,000 engagements and 7 million video views – the most-viewed video ever for the network and the most-viewed video for any NBC Sports Regional  Network, year-to-date.

NBC Sports Washington (NBCSW) capped off the Capitals’ first Stanley Cup with five hours of live onsite coverage surrounding the team’s celebration in Washington, D.C. NBCSW’s parade and rally program on NBCSportsWashington.com, the NBC Sports app, and Facebook Live attracted a record 500,000-plus viewers, who consumed a record 3-plus million minutes of content. Across social media, NBCSW’s content covering the celebration earned more than 2 million views.

SportsEngine Expands Footprint to the UK

SportsEngine, America’s biggest provider of online sports management solutions to sports clubs, coaches, athletes and parents, is set to expand its presence in the UK market following the successful introduction last year of a new platform for swimming clubs.

SportsEngine, an NBC Sports Group company, offers time-saving software to help more than one million teams, clubs and league administrators to manage, connect and communicate with their athletes, parents, coaches and team managers – and, crucially, spend less time on labor intensive, manual, administrative tasks.

The successful UK launch last year of TeamUnify, a team management software tool which helps swimming clubs manage all aspects of business from online registration and finance management to membership communication and class or event scheduling, has encouraged the Minneapolis-based company to invest further in the British market.

This investment will see the company set up a new international base in Belfast, Northern Ireland, expand its sales and account management team and open up its comprehensive range of online services to other sports outside of swimming.

As part of the expansion, NBC Sports executive Brian Smith will transition into an expanded role from Vice President of sister company GolfNow’s UK office to lead SportsEngine’s growth in the UK, Ireland and the rest of Europe.

SportsEngine is the leading software provider of Sport Life Management solutions for 35 million monthly users – including coaches, parents and athletes – and Sport Relationship Management applications for more than 1 million clubs, leagues, governing bodies and associations.

Golf Advisor Sets All-Time Traffic Records

Since expanding its portfolio to super-serve the traveling golfer, including a new Golf Channel travel series and premium travel experiences at world-class resorts and clubs, Golf Advisor continued its rapid growth in May by breaking all-time monthly traffic metrics across all categories for the second consecutive month.

Golf’s leading source of golf course ratings and reviews topped 1.7 million page views in May, up 20% year-over-year and surpassing the previous record in April 2018 by 5%. Other record-breaking traffic metrics in May included visits (1,040,000) up 33%; and unique visitors (825,000) up 29%.

More than 750,000 golf course reviews currently are featured on Golf Advisor, which provides valuable information to not only help golfers choose their next course, but also golf course operators to learn about the likes and dislikes of their customers.  Unlike other review sites populated by industry insiders, Golf Advisor reviews are posted by golfers, for golfers.  More than 85 percent of the half million golfers visiting Golf Advisor each month state that reviews are important to making decisions about where they play.
