SportsEngine Partners with Telemundo Deportes to Promote Youth Participation Across the U.S.

Local Soccer Programs to be Featured on SportsEngine’s Youth Sports Directory, SportsEngine.com

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN / May 24, 2018 SportsEngine, Inc., an NBC Sports Group company, will partner with Telemundo Deportes, the exclusive Spanish-language home of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, to promote participation in youth soccer programs across the United States. During the World Cup this summer airing on Telemundo between June 14 and July 15, SportsEngine’s youth sports directory, sportsengine.com, will dedicate its homepage to soccer programs. The site will feature local programs from across the country and resources to help families find clubs in their area that are the right fit for their children who are interested in soccer. Additionally, SportsEngine is launching its first bilingual advertising campaign, in partnership with Telemundo, to promote the sport of soccer to youth across the United States.

“As the exclusive Spanish-language home of the World Cup through 2026, we’re committed to not only deliver the most exciting and authentic coverage of the tournament, but to grow interest and participation in soccer across the board” said Bill Bergofin, Senior Vice President, Brand and Content Development, Telemundo Deportes. “Through this partnership with SportsEngine, our goal is to ignite interest for girls and boys to try soccer for the first time, as well as encourage young athletes who want to take their skills to the next level.”

In the summer of 2017, SportsEngine launched the country’s largest youth sports directory now featuring over 110,000 youth sports programs and organizations including nearly 1,000 soccer organizations and programs. With this partnership, Telemundo is adding its entire list of youth soccer clubs to SportsEngine and each local soccer club can add programs to be included in their listing. This will enable families to quickly and easily find youth programs in their area.

“We’re honored to partner with Telemundo to help build off of the excitement of the World Cup, and provide greater awareness of soccer programs and opportunities to play,” stated John Weinerth, SportsEngine Vice President of Soccer, Football and Futbol. “We’re passionate about the long-term health of today’s youth and want to do our part to help develop tomorrow’s future World Cup Stars and Olympians.”

At sportsengine.com, parents and athletes can search by sport and geographic location to find a comprehensive list of youths sports organizations, programs, and events in their area. In addition to soccer, over 70 sports are represented from across the U.S. and Canada in the directory. Administrators may also access sportsengine.com to claim their organization or event, enabling them to promote programs, collect registrations, and ensure their listing appears in search results.

Telemundo Deportes, one of the leading providers of Spanish-language sports content in the United States, is home to two of the world’s most popular sporting events: the FIFA World Cup™ through 2026 and the Summer Olympic Games through 2032. It is also the home of the FIFA Club World Cup until at least 2018. In addition, Telemundo Deportes broadcasts the FIFA World Cup™ CONCACAF qualifying matches for most of the region, including the Mexico and USA national teams’ away matches, and the Premier League. Telemundo Deportes is also home to Boxeo Telemundo Ford, the #1 boxing program in Spanish, and Titulares y Más, the #1 sports news, entertainment and commentary show in Spanish, among other recognized sports properties.

Telemundo also launched El Campeon en Ti a company-wide campaign earlier this year focused on empowering young Hispanics through sports. NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises is a division of NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation.
