Penguins-Flyers Game 6 on NBC Delivers Best Overnight Rating of 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs to Date

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 23, 2018 – The Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals can advance to the Second Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight, as NBC Sports presents a pair of Game 6 showdowns on NBCSN and CNBC.

Tonight’s game coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN, as Brad Marchand and the Bruins look to advance with a win against Auston Matthews and the Maple Leafs in Toronto. The Maple Leafs won Game 5 in Boston on Saturday, 4-3, to extend the series. Pre-game coverage for Bruins-Maple Leafs begins at 6:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN with NHL Live.

CNBC’s coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. ET, when Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals aim for their fourth consecutive win to close out their first-round series against Artemi Panarin and the Blue Jackets in Columbus. Pre-game coverage for Capitals-Blue Jackets begins at 7 p.m. ET on CNBC with NHL Live.

The Maple Leafs scored twice in the first period and Frederik Andersen corralled 42 shots, as Toronto defeated Boston, 4-3, in Game 5 on Saturday on NBC to avoid elimination. It marked the fifth time in 16 attempts that the Maple Leafs won a Game 5 when facing a 3-1 series deficit in a best-of-seven series. Andersen became just the fifth goaltender in franchise history to record at least 40 saves in a win in an elimination game.

(1) WASHINGTON CAPITALS AT (WC1) COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS – GAME 6 AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON CNBC – CAPITALS LEAD 3-2

Nicklas Backstrom netted the game-winner in overtime of Game 5 on Saturday on NBC, as the Capitals bested the Blue Jackets, 4-3, to earn their third straight win of the series. Only five other players in Stanley Cup Playoff history have scored more overtime goals in the postseason than Backstrom (four). Blue Jackets-Capitals is just the 17th postseason series in league history to feature at least four overtime games. Washington is the first team in NHL history to play a combined nine overtime games in the first round of consecutive postseasons.

PENGUINS-FLYERS GAME 6 ON NBC DELIVERS BEST OVERNIGHT RATING OF 2018 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS TO DATE

Sunday’s Penguins-Flyers Game 6 on NBC, in which Pittsburgh defeated Philadelphia, 8-5, to advance to the Second Round, produced a 1.63 overnight rating to rank as the best delivery of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs to date, up 22% vs. the comparable game in 2017 (OTT-BOS; 1.34). Additionally, last night’s Predators-Avalanche Game 6 on NBCSN produced a 0.62 overnight rating to rank as the network’s second-best delivery of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs, behind the Capitals-Blue Jackets Game 3 double-overtime thriller (0.72).
