STAMFORD, Conn. – February 25, 2018 – NBC Olympics’ figure skating commentating trio of Tara Lipinski, Johnny Weir, and Terry Gannon will host NBC’s primetime coverage of the Closing Ceremony of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. Coverage begins in primetime, tonight at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC.
Lipinski, Weir and Gannon will be on-site at PyeongChang Olympic Stadium to call the pageantry and spectacle of the Closing Ceremony, which will featuring the Parade of Athletes, interviews, profiles, musical performances, and more. The Olympic flag will be turned over to Beijing, China, host of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, and the Closing Ceremony culminates with the extinguishment of the Olympic flame.
Leading into the Closing Ceremony, Mike Tirico hosts Olympic Gold at 7 p.m. ET on NBC, which features a look back at the most memorable moments and performances of the PyeongChang Olympics.
Today’s daytime coverage on NBC begins at 3 p.m. ET and features the final competition of the 2018 Winter Olympics, as Closing Ceremony flag bearer Jessie Diggins, who helped the U.S. win its first-ever gold medal in cross-country skiing, competes in the cross-country women’s 30km event.
Daytime coverage continues as four-time Olympic gold medalist and 23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams brings viewers back 50 years to the tumultuous and politically-charged year of the Olympic Games in Mexico City with a 90-minute documentary entitled 1968. The documentary features interviews with NBA icon and cultural ambassador Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who protested the 1968 Games; and heavyweight champion George Foreman, who took home a gold medal at the Games. 1968 will also air an NBCSN as part of a three-hour documentary block beginning Sunday at 11:30 a.m. ET that also features Calgary ’88. Calgary ’88 is a 60-minute documentary voiced by iconic actor and acclaimed author Rob Lowe, that looks back at the men’s and ladies figure skating competition at the 1988 Winter Olympics. NBCSN’s coverage continues at 2 p.m. ET with Best of the Games, which is followed by an encore presentation of Steve Schlanger and Chad Salmela’s exhilarating call of cross-country skiing’s women’s team sprint, in which Jessie Diggins and Kikkan Randall won gold and picked up the United States’ first-ever women’s Olympic medal in the sport.
Coverage of the Winter Olympics from PyeongChang on NBCSN wraps at 3:45 p.m. ET with an encore presentation of the women’s hockey gold medal game, where Team USA defeated rival Canada to earn its first Olympic gold in 20 years.
