STAMFORD, Conn. – February 9, 2018 NBC presents the Opening Ceremony of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games from PyeongChang, South Korea, in primetime tonight, Feb. 9, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC. Award-winning journalist Katie Couric returns to NBC to co-host the Opening Ceremony alongside NBC primetime Olympics host Mike Tirico at PyeongChang Olympic Stadium.

Tirico works his first Opening Ceremony, after serving as host for the Closing Ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympics. He served as an NBC daytime anchor throughout the Rio Olympics. Couric, who had a decorated 15-year run as co-anchor of TODAY (1991-2006), returns to co-host her fourth Opening Ceremony after hosting in Sydney, Salt Lake City, and Athens.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 10

NBC’s primetime coverage live across all time zones continues tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 10, beginning at 8 p.m. ET, highlighted by the conclusion of the short programs in the figure skating team event as ice dance duo Maia and Alex Shibutani are expected to compete. The U.S. must finish in the top five to advance to the free skate portion of the competition. Coverage also includes men’s slopestyle snowboarding, gold medal finals in ski jumping’s men’s individual normal hill, and men’s luge.

Primetime Plus coverage features live coverage of the second portion the team figure skating event with the pairs’ free skate at 11:30 p.m. ET.

Daytime coverage of the Winter Olympics on NBC kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 3 p.m. ET, and features multiple short track races including qualifying in the women’s 500m, where 18-year-old Maame Biney, the first black woman to qualify for a U.S. Olympic short track team, is expected to lead the American team.

NBC’s daytime coverage also features men’s slopestyle snowboarding qualifying, and the men’s ski jumping individual normal hill final, followed by the first two runs of the men’s luge competition.

NBCSN presents live coverage of women’s skiathlon gold medal final at 2 a.m. ET, where the U.S. has a chance to win its first-ever Olympic medal in women’s cross-country skiing, followed by a mixed doubles curling game between the brother-sister duo Becca and Matt Hamilton and China’s Wang Rui and Ba Dexin.

Saturday’s live gold medal finals coverage on NBCSN continues with short track at 5 a.m. ET, followed by men’s ski jumping individual normal hill at 7:35 a.m. ET. Susan Dunklee, who looks to give Team USA its first-ever Olympic medal in biathlon, highlights NBCSN’s afternoon coverage in the women’s 7.5km sprint at 1 p.m. ET. Coverage also includes speed skating’s women’s 3000m.

Coverage on NBCSN continues at 7 p.m. ET, when Liam McHugh and 2006 Olympic ice dance silver medalist Tanith White host Olympic Ice alongside analyst and 1984 Olympic figure skating gold medalist Scott Hamilton. The hour-long studio show previews the day’s Olympic figure skating action while also providing viewers with analysis and highlights of the prior  competition. Following Olympic Ice, NBCSN’s coverage includes men’s slopestyle snowboarding gold medal finals.

Defending Olympic gold medalist Jamie Anderson leads a strong U.S. contingent that includes 20-year-old Julia Marino and 17-year-old Hailey Langland in NBCSN’s live coverage of women’s slopestyle at 9:45 p.m. ET.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11

NBC’s primetime coverage live across all time zones continues on Sunday, Feb. 11, beginning at 8 p.m. ET, featuring the conclusion of the figure skating team event after three days of competition with the free skate portion of the competition. U.S. Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin is expected to contend for a medal in women’s giant slalom, while 2014 Olympic snowboarding gold medalist Jamie Anderson looks to defend her title in slopestyle. She’ll be joined by two first-time Olympians, Julia Marino and Hailey Langland, who could also challenge for podium spots.

Coverage also includes the gold medal final in women’s moguls as Americans Jaelin Kauf and Morgan Schild are expected to contend for podium sports. The men’s luge competition, featuring Chris Mazdzer and Tucker West, will award medals after the final two runs. Live Primetime Plus coverage begins at 11:35 p.m. ET with the second run of women’s alpine skiing, followed by women’s halfpipe. Snowboarding phenom 17-year-old Chloe Kim of the U.S. headlines the women’s halfpipe competition. Her U.S. teammate, five-time Olympian Kelly Clark, is also expected to contend. They will likely be challenged by two-time reigning world champion Cai Xuetong of China.

Sunday’s daytime coverage on NBC kicks off at 3 p.m. ET, and features Lowell Bailey, who became the first American biathlete to capture a world title last season. He’ll open his PyeongChang schedule with the men’s 10km sprint. Coverage also includes speed skating’s men’s 5000m and cross-country’s men’s skiathlon.

The U.S. women’s hockey team plays Finland in its first game of the Olympic tournament, live at 2:40 a.m. ET on NBCSN. The team is headlined by two-time Olympic silver medalist Hilary Knight, captain Meghan Duggan, and 2017 world championship MVP Brianna Decker.

This marks the first time a South Korean city has staged a Winter Games; Seoul was the summer host in 1988. In early January, officials from North and South Korea met with the IOC and organizing committee to discuss North Korea’s participation in Pyeongchang. At the meeting, North and South Korea agreed that their delegations would match together under a “unified Korea” flag at the Opening Ceremony. The two countries have previously marched together at the Opening Ceremony of three Olympics: Sydney (2000), Athens (2004) and Torino (2006).
