McCarron Defends at PGA TOUR Champions’ Boca Raton Championship


ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 6, 2018)
– The PGA TOUR shifts to the Monterey Peninsula for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The current top-three players in the world: Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth (defending champion) lead the field of professionals who will be joined by celebrity amateur golfers including Carson Daly, Tony Romo, Toby Keith, Larry Fitzgerald and Justin Verlander. The European Tour will stage the second edition of the World Super 6 Perth, with more than 20 hours of live tournament coverage airing on Golf Channel showcasing the innovative event format that combines both stroke and match play. The PGA TOUR Champions are in south Florida for the Boca Raton Championship, with Bernhard Langer and defending champion Scott McCarron leading the field.

Top-three in world lead the field: The event this week will feature each of the current top-three in the world, Dustin Johnson (No. 1), Jon Rahm (No. 2) and defending champion Jordan Spieth (No. 3), along with Rory McIlroy (No. 8).
Course rotation & format: The field of 156 professionals and 156 amateurs will play one round at each of the three course venues over the first three days. The top-60 professionals (and ties) along with the top-25 pro-am teams after 54 holes will advance to the final round at Pebble Beach.
Spieth defends: Jordan Spieth finished four shots clear of the field to earn his ninth PGA TOUR win.
Headlining the field: Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Paul Casey, Patrick Reed, Gary Woodland, Patrick Cantlay, Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott.

Broadcast Notes:
Unique, innovative format: This is the second edition of the event which has a unique format combining both stroke and match play. The first three days will be contested in a traditional stroke play format, with a 36-hole cut and an additional cut after 54 holes to the low-24 players (ties will be broken via sudden death playoff). The final day will consist of match play, with six-hole matches to determine players advancing. The top-8 players following 54 holes will earn a “bye” before facing the winners of the matches being contested by the other 16 players advancing. Any match tied after six holes will be decided by an extra hole measuring approximately 100 yards, utilizing a tee box along the 18th fairway.
Rumford defends: Brett Rumford defeated Phachara Khongwatmai 2&1 to claim his sixth European Tour victory.
Headlining the field: Lee Westwood, Danny Willett, Thorbjorn Olesen, Andrew “Beef” Johnston, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Brett Rumford, David Lipsky and Chase Koepka.
