Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA to Televise More Than 90 Hours of Coverage of 2017-18 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup Season

Highlights Include Events from Beaver Creek, Killington, Kitzbuehel, Lake Louise, St. Moritz, and World Cup Finals in Aare, Sweden

STAMFORD, Conn. – Oct. 26, 2017 – NBC Sports Group will present its most robust FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup programming ever during the 2017-18 season, providing nearly 200 hours of linear and digital coverage spanning NBC, NBCSN, Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA, NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports app, OlympicChannel.com, and the Olympic Channel app.

U.S. Olympic gold medalists Mikaela Shiffrin, Lindsey Vonn, and Ted Ligety will headline the American contingent this season against the world’s top skiers as they prepare for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. Coverage begins this Saturday, Oct. 28, from Soelden, Austria, where Shiffrin, Vonn, and Ligety are expected to compete.

With nearly 80 races spanning three continents, NBC Sports Group’s 2017-18 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup schedule includes events in Lake Louise, Alberta (Nov. 25-Dec. 3); Killington, Vt. (Nov. 25-26); Beaver Creek, Colo. (Dec. 1-3); St. Moritz, Switzerland (Dec. 8-10); Wengen, Switzerland (Jan 12-14); and Kitzbuehel, Austria (Jan. 19-21). The season culminates with more than 15 hours of coverage of the 2017-18 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals in Aare, Sweden, beginning March 14.

FIS ALPINE SKIING WORLD CUP FROM SOELDEN – BEGINNING SATURDAY, OCT. 28, AT 4 A.M. ET

The men’s and women’s giant slalom will be contested at this weekend’s FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup event in Soelden, Austria, kicking off the 2017-18 season. Olympic gold medalists Mikaela Shiffrin, Lindsey Vonn, and Ted Ligety are expected to lead the U.S. Ski and Snowboard contingent. Shiffrin, the 2014 Olympic slalom gold medalist and reigning overall World Cup champion, won her first giant slalom world championship medal (silver) last season. The 22-year-old became the fifth American to win the coveted FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup overall title earlier this year, joining Phil Mahre, Tamara McKinney, Bode Miller, and Lindsey Vonn. Vonn is competing in her first giant slalom since January 2016, and boasts four career World Cup giant slalom wins, the first of which came in Soelden in 2011. Ligety returns to competition this weekend following a season-ending back injury last year, and has won at Soelden four times, including three consecutive wins from 2011-2013.

Coverage begins on OlympicChannel.com and the Olympic Channel app on Saturday at 4 a.m. ET with the first run of the women’s giant slalom, followed by women’s giant slalom second run at 6:30 a.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA. NBCSN will air an encore presentation on Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. ET. Coverage continues on Sunday, when OlympicChannel.com and the Olympic Channel app present run 1 of the men’s giant slalom at 5 a.m. ET, followed by the second run at 7:30 a.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA.
