NOTABLE QUOTES: BMW CHAMPIONSHIP (FINAL ROUND)

NBC Sports Group Notable Quotes
BMW Championship
Sunday, Sept. 17 (Final Round)
Conway Farms Golf Club, Lake Forest, Ill.

Marc Leishman (23-under, winner) speaking with NBC Sports’ Steve Sands following his win
Marc Leishman – “There’s probably a few little scars from two weeks ago at the Dell [Technologies Championship]. And I was just really, really determined to just not let that happen again and try to give myself a big enough buffer that I could get it done. And yeah, I got it done.”

On Leishman
Johnny Miller – “He played well tee-to-green, but the putting was out of this world…Definitely the best player this week.”

On Jason Day (16-under, 4th)
David Feherty – “What a day this might have been. He’s just hit it up and down like a fiddler’s elbow.”
Mark Rolfing – “This round really has been a microcosm of his year. We saw him play great at the PGA [Championship] and also make a nine on the last hole on Saturday. Saw him in position at THE PLAYERS and shot 80 on Sunday. He’s just been really good or really poor.”

On Justin Rose (18-under, T-2nd)
Miller – “He did his share to take it away from Leishman. Leishman just didn’t give it to him.”
Rolfing – “I like the way he has putted the last few events he has played in. He’s very comfortable over the ball.”

Jordan Spieth (13-under, T-7th) speaking with Sands following his round
Jordan Spieth – “When you start playing for position, that’s when you kind of take your foot off the gas pedal. That’s not how we normally play. I’m comfortable at East Lake. I’m in a great position. It’s just about going there, getting the work in the next few days to do what we did today… I’ve done a better job this year versus last year of learning how to rest and recover, and how important that is in a long season… This year I feel like I’ve done a lot better job to kind of have my legs left for East Lake and then obviously whatever is left in the tank for Presidents Cup.”

Xander Schauffele (10-under, T-20th) speaking with Sands following his round
Xander Schauffele – “We were 2-over through 10 or 11, and the fact that I’m sitting here smiling shooting 4-under today is just incredible. I really didn’t want my year to end and that’s what I was telling my caddie the entire back nine. And we made a good push no matter what happens… It’s a dream year for me. I’ve hit pretty much every goal that we came up with and now I’ve got to start creating some new ones.”
