STAMFORD, Conn. – Sept. 7, 2017 – NBC Sports presents a top-25 clash this Saturday in primetime on NBC at 7:30 p.m. ET featuring a pair of historic college football programs, when the No. 24 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1-0) host the No. 15 Georgia Bulldogs (1-0) in just the second-ever meeting between the two schools.

Notre Dame moved into the AP Top 25 this week following a 49-16 win in its home opener against Temple on Sept. 2. Fighting Irish QB Brandon Wimbush threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 106 yards and another score in his first collegiate start. Wimbush was one of three players on the Notre Dame offense to rush for over 100 yards (Josh Adams and Dexter Williams), the first time three Irish players eclipsed the century mark on the ground since at least 1954.

Georgia defeated Appalachian State by a score of 31-10 last Saturday in Athens. The Bulldogs were led offensively by freshman QB Jake Fromm, who replaced injured QB Jacob Eason late in the first quarter, and threw for 143 yards and a touchdown in his collegiate debut. Fromm will make his first-ever start for the Bulldogs this weekend in South Bend.

Saturday’s primetime matchup on NBC marks just the second-ever game between Notre Dame and Georgia. Their only meeting came in the 1981 Sugar Bowl, when No. 1 ranked Georgia defeated No. 7 Notre Dame by a score of 17-10 to finish the season undefeated and win the national championship. Herschel Walker rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the game for the Bulldogs.

The Notre Dame Football on NBC commentary team is led by Mike Tirico, who begins his first full season as the voice of Notre Dame Football on NBC. He’ll be joined in the booth by Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie, who serves as lead analyst for Notre Dame Football on NBC, and sideline reporter Kathryn Tappen.

Liam McHugh hosts studio coverage of Notre Dame Football on NBC, alongside former college and NFL quarterback Chris Simms, who makes his debut as a studio analyst for Notre Dame Football on NBC this season. McHugh and Simms will anchor pre-game, halftime, and post-game coverage on-site at Notre Dame Stadium for every game this season.

PRE-GAME COVERAGE INCLUDES SHOW OPENING WITH TIM BROWN AND HERSCHEL WALKER – LAST TWO HEISMAN TROPHY WINNERS FROM NOTRE DAME AND GEORGIA

NBC Sports will open Saturday night’s primetime telecast with a piece on former Notre Dame WR Tim Brown and former Georgia RB Herschel Walker. Brown (1987) and Walker (1982) are the last two recipients of the Heisman Trophy from their respective schools, and Walker played in the only other meeting between Notre Dame and Georgia (1981 Sugar Bowl).

NOTRE DAME-GEORGIA PRIMETIME TELECAST ON NBC TO UTILIZE LARGEST CAMERA COMPLEMENT SINCE ACQUIRING NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL HOME GAME RIGHTS IN 1991

Saturday night’s primetime telecast on NBC between the Fighting Irish and the Bulldogs will feature the largest camera complement for a Notre Dame Football on NBC game since acquiring exclusive Notre Dame football home game rights prior to the 1991 season. This week’s robust telecast will feature more than 20 cameras, as well as live look-ins at a viewing party in Athens, Ga., featuring members of the Georgia Bulldogs team that won the national title in 1981.
