Annika Sorenstam interview with Golf Channel’s Rich Lerner and Judy Rankin today at the RICOH Women’s British Open

On I.K. Kim, third-round leader at the RICOH Women’s British Open
Sorenstam –“It is different to have a substantial lead because all you are doing is looking behind, who is catching me and what are they doing. Obviously the key for her is to look forward and trust herself.”

On the 2017 Solheim Cup
Sorenstam – “It is exciting, certainly not making it easier for us, but I’m glad to see that several of the European Tour players are finding their form.”

On Georgia Hall and Florentyna Parker
Sorenstam – “Georgia is playing very, very well. Very impressed with her. Just a young player, new to the scene. She came to Des Moines in May, she got an invite and wanted to see what she thought about the golf course. I was impressed with her swing. I like her attitude.”
Sorenstam – “Florentyna also came to Des Moines in May, we had a practice round. Really hasn’t played that well the last month or so but overall has played very solid. Some of the names are upcoming and we have a mix with some veterans.”

On Azahara Munoz
Sorenstam – “I’ve known Aza a long time and have played against her. She is a terrific young player. Been in Solheim Cups before. A part of that Spanish contingent where they live for team events. We probably started with our eyes on about 30 players, then moving down to 20, 16 and now 12. We’re following Aza. She is playing well this week. She has a new caddie on her bag and it seems like things are turning around.”

On Team Europe
Sorenstam – “If you look at rankings – I look at numbers – and world rankings say a lot. But this is not about rankings. This is about getting together as a team. Our goal is to be as prepared as ever, go out there and have fun and get together and enjoy the journey. It is an honor to be a part of the team. It is an honor to be a captain. I don’t want them to worry about anything but playing.”
Sorenstam – “There is a different feeling standing in the last group of the U.S. Open and here you are standing with 11 other teammates. You’ve got friends, family, captains, helpers, everybody. You feel the pressure. It is very, very different. The only thing I can say is, I’ve been there, and I’ve done that. I will share that experience with them and hopefully we can lighten up the atmosphere and not think so much about where we are and what we are doing. Rather, being there and being able to absorb the opportunity.”
