NBC Sports Group Presents NASCAR XFINITY and Cup Series Coverage from Iowa and Pocono

STAMFORD, Conn. – July 25, 2017 – NBC Sports Group continues its 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series and Formula One coverage this weekend, highlighted by the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on CNBC, and the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN.

This week also marks the return of NBCSN Overdrive, the network’s Thursday night primetime motorsports block, highlighted by American Flat Track racing from Arizona at 10 p.m. ET, as well as Lucas Oil Pro Motocross racing from Washougal, Wash., on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

In addition, NBC Sports Group will provide comprehensive coverage of this weekend’s NASCAR XFINITY and Cup Series races from Iowa and Pocono.

 

INDYCAR HONDA INDY 200 AT MID-OHIO – SUNDAY AT 3 P.M. ET ON CNBC

The Verizon IndyCar Series rolls into Mid-Ohio this weekend with IndyCar veterans Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) and Helio Castroneves (Penske) vying for top position among the championship standings. Dixon (423 points) holds a slim lead over Castroneves (420 points), followed by last year’s series champion Simon Pagenaud (Penske; 404 points) and Josef Newgarden (Penske; 400 ponts), who won the series’ most recent race in Toronto two weekends ago.

NBCSN will televise live qualifying on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET. Live coverage of the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio will air on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on CNBC, followed by an encore presentation of the race on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

Kevin Lee (play-by-play) will call the action alongside analysts Paul Tracy and Townsend Bell. Reporters Jon Beekhuis, Katie Hargitt, Robin Miller and Anders Krohn will report from the pits.

 

F1 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX – SUNDAY AT 7:30 A.M. ET ON NBCSN

Coverage of the 2017 Formula One season continues this Sunday at 7:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN with the Hungarian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton’s (Mercedes; 176 points) victory at Silverstone has now brought him within one point of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel (177 points) for the championship lead. Both drivers have had success in Hungary. Hamilton has won a record five times in Budapest, including last year, while Vettel took the victory in 2015. Valtteri Bottas, Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate, currently sits third in the standings (154 points). Mercedes (330 points) currently leads Ferrari (275) in the constructor standings.

Coverage begins Friday on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app at 4 a.m. ET with Practice 1, followed by Practice 2 at 8 a.m. ET on NBCSN. NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app will stream Practice 3 on Saturday at 5 a.m. ET, prior to NBCSN’s live coverage of qualifying at 8 a.m. ET. Live pre-race coverage from begins Sunday at 7 a.m. ET on NBCSN, followed by the Hungarian Grand Prix at 7:30 a.m. ET, and post-race coverage on F1 Extra at 10 a.m. ET.

NBC Sports Group’s lead F1 broadcast team of Leigh Diffey (play-by-play), veteran analyst and former racecar driver David Hobbs, and analyst and former race mechanic for the Benetton F1 team Steve Matchett will call the action. F1 insider Will Buxton will report on-site from Hungary.

 

NBCSN OVERDRIVE THURSDAY MOTORSPORTS BLOCK BEGINS THIS WEEK, INCLUDING AMERICAN FLAT TRACK RACING AT 10 P.M. ET

NBCSN Overdrive, the network’s Thursday night primetime motorsports block, returns for its second season, highlighted this week by American Flat Track racing from Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Ariz., at 10 p.m. ET.

The weekly, primetime block will include six unique series and more than 40 hours of premiere programming, featuring new seasons of Grudge Race and Journey to the Hammers. American Flat Track, widely regarded as the most prestigious and competitive form of dirt track motorcycle racing in the world, will be featured most Thursdays on Overdrive at 10 p.m. ET. Following are show descriptions for programs airing on Overdrive:

  • Grudge RaceHost Willie B brings real racers with long-standing grudges to the track for a once in a lifetime opportunity to settle the score;

 

  • Journey to the Hammers – The program showcases the drivers, teams and the lifestyle of ULTRA4 Racing & the King of the Hammers, America’s largest off-road race;

 

  • Caffeine and Octane (starting Sept. 7) – North America’s largest monthly car show featuring all makes and models, and regularly attracts more than 2,000 vehicles and 15,000 fans;

 

  • Motorclub (starting Oct. 12) – A deep dive into the Pro motorsports community, showcasing the passion and heart that drivers put on the line week in and week out;

 

  • /DRIVE (starting Oct. 19) – Viewers get a glimpse of some of the most spectacular, high-end cars in the world on /DRIVE – on the road, at the race, inside the factory, and in the driver’s seat.


LUCAS OIL PRO MOTOCROSS WASHOUGAL NATIONAL – SATURDAY AT 6 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship continues with the Washougal National from Washougal, Wash., this Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Marvin Musquin swept last weekend’s event at Spring Creek in the 450 Class, while Joey Savatgy won the 250 Class event.

Veteran play-by-play voice Jason Weigandt, analyst and two-time AMA Pro Motocross Champion Grant Langston, and pit reporter Georgia Lindsay will call this weekend’s action.

NBC SPORTS GROUP PRESENTS NASCAR XFINITY AND CUP SERIES COVERAGE FROM IOWA AND POCONO

NBC Sports Group gears up for its fourth week of live 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and XFINITY Series racing. The NASCAR XFINITY Series visits Iowa Speedway this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC, and the NASCAR Cup Series visits iconic Pocono Raceway on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on NBCSN. More information on this weekend’s NASCAR coverage will be released later this week.
