CSN MID-ATLANTIC WINS 4 CAPITAL REGION EMMY AWARDS

TOP HONORS INCLUDE LIVE CAPITALS COVERAGE, CAPITAL GAINS AND GEICO SPORTSNET CENTRAL; BENINATI CLAIMS 11TH INDIVIDUAL EMMY 

BETHESDA, Md.June 26, 2017 – The National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) recognized CSN Mid-Atlantic with four 2016 Emmy Awards at the 59th Annual Emmy Awards Gala on June 24. CSN, which earned six nominations this year, has won 81 Emmy Awards on 136 nominations since 2001.

CSN’s four Emmy Awards were earned for live sporting event (Washington Capitals), sports program series (Capital Gains) and daily or weekly sports program (Geico SportsNet Central), and in the individual categories for sports play-by-play (Joe Beninati).

CSN’s live coverage of the Washington Capitals won its seventh Emmy since 2001. The network has now claimed 12 awards in this category in the last 16 years, including eight in the last nine years. Two years ago, CSN’s live coverage of the Washington Wizards earned the top prize and the network has also won for its Redskins preseason games.

The second edition of Capitals Gains, CSN’s three-part original series covering the Capitals 2016-17 training camp, earned the Emmy for sports program series. The one-hour Rock the Road episode provided all-access coverage of the team’s preseason road trip to Bridgeport, Conn., to face the New York Islanders.

The late weekday edition of Geico SportsNet Central, hosted by Michael Jenkins, was the winner of the daily/weekly sports program category. The program earned an additional nomination in the same category.

In addition to his award as part of CSN’s live Capitals coverage, Joe Beninati won his 11th Emmy for sports play-by-play. Beninati, who has now claimed the top honor in this category in seven of the last eight years, was previously honored in 2001-02, 2005-06, 2009-11, 2013-15.
