Erin Hills
Erin, Wisconsin

On Erin Hills:
Mark Rolfing: “With the conditions we’re seeing right now, for today – and for the rest of the week potentially – show this to be a real, power players U.S. Open, not like a typical U.S. Open.”
Rolfing: “These fairways are actually – as they soften up – going to widen up, which means I think the course will play a little bit easier. It’ll be become even more of a power game.”
Rolfing: “These are small bunkers, very narrow bunkers that have some very steep sides to them. As the sand firms up with the rain, the ball will tend to get more down on the bottom of the bunker, which actually may make them play easier.”
Justin Leonard – “The rain definitely changes the complexion of the golf course. It becomes much more manageable and it only heightens the advantage that the longer players in the field – which seem to occupy a lot of those top spots in the world rankings – giving them a larger advantage.”
John Feinstein – “We are all kind of flying blind here because it is a brand new golf course for everybody. It is also brand new for Mike Davis in terms of setup. He doesn’t have any history or hole locations he can go back to.”

On Erin Hills’ Par-3 Ninth Hole
Rolfing: “These are the toughest green-side bunkers I think I have seen in major championship golf in a long time.”

On Sergio Garcia
Leonard – “This is a whole new experience for him. The freedom he has this week after winning his first major, he is experiencing for the first time. I look for him to play well and be in contention.”
Feinstein – “He is playing with house money because he finally got that first major out of the way.”
