STANLEY CUP FINAL GAME 1 – PREDATORS-PENGUINS – TONIGHT AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBC
The defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins are attempting to become the first team in nearly two decades to repeat as Cup winners. Detroit was the last team to accomplish the feat in 1997 and 1998. Pittsburgh advanced to the Final with a thrilling 3-2 double-overtime win in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final against Ottawa, led by a two-goal outburst by Chris Kunitz, who netted the game-winner. Evgeni Malkin (24 points) and Sidney Crosby (20 points) are ranked first and second in the league in points during these Playoffs.
Nashville is playing in its first Stanley Cup Final in franchise history. The Predators swept the Blackhawks in the first round, dispatched the Blues in six games in the second round, and defeated the Ducks in six games in the Western Conference Final. Filip Forsberg has powered the Predators into the Final. Forsberg is on a seven-game point streak, and leads the club in goals (8) and points (15). Nashville’s defense has been a source of offense as well, accounting for 42 points and 11 goals in these Playoffs, both tops in the NHL.
