(2) WASHINGTON CAPITALS AT (1) PITTSBURGH PENGUINS – GAME 6 TONIGHT AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN – PENGUINS LEAD 3-2

Trailing 2-1 heading into the third period of Game 5 and facing elimination, the Capitals responded with three goals in the final stanza on Saturday night to stave off elimination to win 4-2 in Washington. Nicklas Backstrom tied the game, before Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alex Ovechkin scored 27 seconds apart to put the Caps ahead for good. Sidney Crosby returned to the lineup for Pittsburgh after missing most of Game 3 and all of Game 4 with a concussion, and registered an assist in the loss.

Last season, when these two teams met in the second round, Washington won Game 5 at home to avoid elimination before losing in overtime in Game 6 in Pittsburgh. Washington has trailed a series 3-1 on nine previous occasions in the playoffs – they’ve forced a Game 7 three times, and won the series twice (1988 and 2009). Washington has never won three straight games against Pittsburgh in the playoffs, a feat they will have to accomplish to advance.
