“TOMBOY” DOCUMENTARY MAKES NATIONAL DEBUT THIS THUR., MAR. 30, AT 3 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Original Production Aims to Elevate the Conversation about Gender in Sports

Stamford, Conn. – March 28, 2017 – NBCSN presents the national debut of TOMBOY, NBC Sports Regional Networks’ multi-platform documentary project about gender in sports, Thursday, March 30 at 3 p.m. ET. Told through the voices of many of the world’s most prominent female athletes, broadcasters and sports executives, TOMBOY aims to elevate the conversation.

Presented by Geico, TOMBOY includes interviews with longtime champion for gender equality and women’s tennis icon Billie Jean King, four-time World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn, former UFC Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate, Little League World Series pitching sensation Mo’ne Davis, and Basketball Hall of Famer Ann Meyers-Drysdale. A full list of participants in the one-hour documentary is available here.

The TOMBOY initiative continues after women’s history month. The NBC Sports Regional Networks continue their commitment to elevating the conversation about gender in sports across their respective websites, featuring extra clips that did not make the documentary, new articles and exclusive content.

Below are a few thoughts shared by regional reporters about the TOMBOY documentary and initiative:

“To put a face on the struggle — or rather, 30 of them — “Tomboy” puts women in front of the camera to reiterate that the uphill climb toward gender equality in sports is ongoing. And, to its credit, the film drives home that message without coming off as jaded or lecturing.” Chicago Tribune

“As someone who has covered high school and college softball for more than 30 years, this show was quite enlightening in terms of getting into the mindset and motivation of many female athletes and their struggle to forge their way in a male-dominated landscape.”Allentown Morning Call

“The project as a whole tackles themes beyond girls getting to play school sports…Even for the non-athletically inclined, the documentary contains broad messages, one being that sharing personal experiences contributes to better understanding between people.”Billy Penn
