NBC Sports Notable Quotes
Valspar Championship
Sunday, March 12, 2017 (Final Round)
Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club, Copperhead Course
Palm Harbor, Florida

On Adam Hadwin, Valspar Championship winner at 14-under par (Even-par 71 on Sunday)
Dan Hicks – “Mr. 59 is now a PGA TOUR winner. He gets married a week from this Friday, and was scheduled to go on a honeymoon with his fiancée Jessica, but I believe the plans have been changed dramatically.”
Hicks – “All of the ‘Mr. 59s’ now have a PGA TOUR victory.”
Roger Maltbie – “He doesn’t seem to take on too many challenges if he doesn’t have to, and keeps the ball in play. He has done very well this week.”
Hicks – “You just get the feeling that he was a lot more comfortable with this 54-hole lead. It seemed like he was ready to win.”
Hicks – “Hadwin will tell you that he is in a totally different frame of mind this year than he was last year when he blew up on the golf course. He has shown us that new attitude this week.”

Adam Hadwin speaking with NBC’s Steve Sands following his victory
Adam Hadwin – “I don’t know what to say right now. I fully expected Patrick to make that putt. As I said yesterday, I just wanted a chance to win coming up at the last. And I had that chance. I thought we were going to have to make birdies to win it. I’m just lucky that 1-footer wasn’t one-and-a-half feet.”

On Patrick Cantlay, 2nd place at 13-under par (3-under par 68 on Sunday)
Gary Koch – “He is really taking advantage of that last sponsor exemption given by Valspar this week.”
David Feherty – “Patrick Cantlay is having a great afternoon.”
Maltbie – “We were exiting in the walkway [from 10 to 11] and this voice from behind me said, ‘I’m coming Rog.’ I turned around and it was Patrick Cantlay. This was coming off of birdies at 9 and 10 so his confidence is running pretty high.”
Hicks – “He is doing everything he can to stay with Hadwin.”
Maltbie – “He was right coming off of 10 green. ‘I’m comin.’”

On Cantlay hitting his approach shot into the greenside bunker on 18 that turned into a bogey
Koch – “That was perhaps one of his worst strikes we’ve seen from him all week.”
Hicks – “Even though Cantlay is coming up short here, you have to admire what he has done today and what he has persevered through.”

On Sunday’s final pairing of Hadwin and Cantlay
Peter Jacobsen – “Talk about a couple of cool customers, Cantlay and Hadwin.”
Feherty – “These two are putting on quite a show.”
Hicks – “When you’ve got two young guys going for their first PGA Tour win, it is significant, everything that goes along with it.”

On Dominic Bozzelli, T3 at 12-under par (4-under par 67 on Sunday)
Koch – “What I like is when he gets himself into this position, he seems to be able to handle it well. Now he needs to work on the consistency and get there a little bit more often.”

On Jim Herman, T3 at 12-under par (3-under par 68 on Sunday)
Notah Begay – “It’s been a battle for Jim Herman. He is putting up a good fight today.”
Hicks – “He thought many, many times on giving up on his PGA TOUR dream. Got the win in Houston last year and now with his best finish since that win in Houston. Now 39 years old, living the dream.”

On Tony Finau, 5th place at 11-under par (7-under par 64 on Sunday)
Mark Rolfing – “One thing he does not do a lot of is play very careful. He does not back off a lot of shots.”
