BETHESDA, Md. – March 1, 2017 – CSN Mid-Atlantic this week will present three special programs, including a feature documentary, and host an advance screening and conversation event as part of an extensive multiplatform initiative entitled TOMBOY, a first-of-its-kind NBC Sports Regional Networks integrated campaign aimed at elevating the conversation of gender in sports.

The one-hour TOMBOY documentary, which features many prominent athletes, sports executives and media members sharing their unique stories and experiences, will premiere on CSN Mid-Atlantic on Sunday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. Notable figures appearing in the film include four-time World Cup-champion skier Lindsey Vonn, Little League World Series pitching sensation Mo’ne Davis and Basketball Hall of Famer Ann Meyers-Drysdale.

CSN Mid-Atlantic will also deliver a special program featuring groundbreaking tennis legend Billie Jean King. The half-hour interview show, Billie Jean King: Elevating the Conversation, will debut Friday, March 3, at 10 p.m., and will encore Sunday, March 5, at 9:30 p.m., following the debut of the documentary and a conversation-style program recorded at a special live event.

The event, held in partnership with the National Museum of Women in the Arts, will include an advance screening of the documentary, followed by discussion with leading women from the sports industry on Friday, March 3, at 7 p.m. The event, which will be held in the NMWA’s Performance Hall (1221 New York Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C.), is free and open to the public. Seats can be reserved through the NMWA website.

The interactive post-screening conversation, moderated by CSN Mid-Atlantic anchor and reporter Jill Sorenson and hosted by CSN Mid-Atlantic anchor and reporter Julie Donaldson, will be televised as A Conversation on Gender and Sports following the documentary’s debut on Sunday, March 5, at 8:30 p.m. The one-hour show will include reaction to the documentary and extended dialogue on its topics from special guests and the audience. Audience members and viewers can participate by using #CSNTOMBOY.

Expected participants include Reagan Carey, USA Hockey’s Director of Women’s Hockey and General Manager for the Olympic Team and all U.S. Women’s National Teams for IIHF Women’s World Championships; Natalie Randolph, Title IX Coordinator and Senior Women’s Administrator for the District of Columbia State Athletic Association and former head football coach of Coolidge High School in Washington, D.C.; and Kelly Wolf, Vice President of Octagon, a leading global sports and entertainment marketing and representation agency.

As part of the event, and in conjunction with the TOMBOY initiative, CSN Mid-Atlantic President Rebecca Schulte will present a $5,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington to be used to purchase sports equipment for children who attend the Club(s).

The donation stems from Comcast NBCUniversal’s longstanding partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Comcast NBCUniversal has supported local Boys & Girls Clubs for more than 15 years, providing nearly $125 million in cash and in-kind contributions since 2009 alone. In late 2014, Comcast NBCUniversal announced a five-year agreement with BGCA valued at tens of millions of dollars, making BGCA the company’s largest community partner. At the center of that agreement is a new technology education initiative, called My.Future, which is designed to open the eyes of young people to what’s possible for them to achieve through technology.

Comprehensive TOMBOY content – such as blogs, articles, podcasts and original video, including a preview of the documentary – is available on CSN Mid-Atlantic’s digital properties, led by CSNmidatlantic.com and @CSNMA. Users can join the conversation by using #CSNTOMBOY.
