Olympians and Top International Athletes to Compete

STAMFORD, Conn. – November 22, 2016 – NBC Sports Group presents eight hours of figure skating coverage this weekend, highlighted by performances from the men’s and ladies’ free skate competition at 2016 Grand Prix Japan this Sunday, November 27, at 4 p.m. ET on NBC. In addition, NBC presents encore coverage of 2016 Grand Prix Russia and Grand Prix France this Saturday, November 26, at 4 p.m. ET.

Universal HD will present coverage Grand Prix Japan from Sapporo throughout the weekend, beginning this Friday, November 25, at 8 p.m. ET with the ladies’ and men’s short program competitions. Coverage will be streamed on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app.

Highlighting the ladies’ competition at Grand Prix Japan are 2016 World and European bronze medalist Anna Pogorilaya of Russia, 2015 World silver medalist Satoko Miyahara of Japan, and 2008 U.S. champion Mirai Nagasu. The men’s field features 2014 World champion and Olympic gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan and 2015 U.S. champion Jason Brown.

Pogorilaya also competed in Grand Prix Russia with teammate Yelena Radyonova, the 2015 World and Grand Prix Final bronze medalist, while two-time U.S. champion Gracie Gold and reigning World champion Yevgenia Medvedeva of Russia highlighted the ladies’ competition at Grand Prix France. The men’s field at both Grand Prix Russia and Grand Prix France featured two-time World and four-time European champion Javier Fernandez of Spain.

Play-by-play announcer Terry Gannon calls the action on NBC joined by 1998 Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski and three-time U.S. figure skating champion Johnny Weir.

Grand Prix Japan is the sixth event of the 2016 International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. The Grand Prix Series, now in its 22nd season, consists of six international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Approximately 300 athletes from 30 countries are expected to participate in the series. Each athlete is eligible to score points in up to two of the six scheduled events. The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the 2016 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, set for Dec. 8-11, in Marseille France.
